Your users’ preferences

This section reviews the various options open to web users to specify their choices relative to the collection and use of their personal data. For practical implementation vis-à-vis the Piano Analytics solution (see the Consent Management article).

Overview of the various tools and applications:

Audience measurement opt-out - Websites

Principles:

Audience measurement opt-out consists in using an ‘opt-out cookie’ (or ‘exclusion cookie’) instead of the usual audience measurement cookie.

This is anonymised insofar as it does not contain the web user's specific ID. Thanks to this cookie, the web user’s browser data may not be analysed by the audience measurement body. Information is transmitted, but given that the cookie is anonymised, this information does not enable the identification of the user in question. In the framework of the Piano Analytics solution, this data integrates a global indicator which measures the number of visitors in opt-out status. It is the web user’s responsibility to specify their preference for an opt-out cookie instead of an audience measurement cookie.

How to specify your choice:

The owners of audience measurement cookies are responsible for providing a web page on which users may specify their preference easily (generally a box to tick). As a rule, this possibility must be available on the privacy information page.

Scopes of application:

The taking into account of the web user’s choice is valid only for the device and browser via which this choice was specified.

Audience measurement opt-out - Mobile applications

Principles :

As with websites, mobile application users avail of solutions to specify their wish not to be included in audience measurement.

How to specify your choice:

Under the general settings for the phone, each user may choose the option ‘Limit Ad Tracking’ and/or reset their advertising ID.

Restrictions:

This only applies to applications using ‘advertising’ identifiers to carry out visitor recognition (IDFA-type ID for iOS and Advertising ID for Android). Furthermore, each application publisher may configure privacy management in the application settings by providing an opt-out solution. The user must then open these settings to specify their choice.

Scopes of application:

The taking into account of the user’s choice is valid only for the device via which these settings were entered.

Anti-tracking protection

Principles:

Function provided by the FireFox browser which blocks certain trackers based on a list held by the company Disconnect . The web user must specify their choice to use this function.

How to specify your choice:

Available under FireFox Options / Privacy & security.

Scopes of application:

Does not concern applications as they do not use a browser. FireFox is currently the only browser offering this function, but each web user may refer directly to the Disconnect website to apply this list to their browsing. The taking into account of the web user’s choice is valid only for the device and browser via which this choice was specified.

Note

In March 2018, AT Internet was present on the Disconnect list under the following domain names: atinternet.com, xiti.com. This means that when this function is activated, AT Internet does not collect data from users browsing on sites using the collection domain names atinternet.com and xiti.com. To bypass this issue, we offer a collection solution under your own domain name (click here for details).

Users’ private browsing windows

Principles :

Each browser offers browsing sessions in ‘private mode’ and methods may vary according to the browser: FireFoxOperaEdgeChromeSafari.

How to specify your choice:

Under the browser’s general menu, a direct link opens a private browsing session

Scopes of application:

Does not concern applications as they do not use a browser. The taking into account of the web user’s choice is valid only for the device and browser via which this choice was specified and for the duration of the session.

Limited ad tracking

Principles :

Limited ad tracking and advertising ID reset are functions available via the operating systems of mobile devices (iOS/Android). They act on the device identifiers which are used for targeted advertising operations. Deactivation of this tracking and ID reset prevent data from being transmitted to advertisers. Regarding Web Analytics, these identifiers may be used in the framework of visitor recognition. The user who has applied these settings is thus in opt-out status on applications using advertising ID for visitor recognition.

How to specify your choice:

  • Android (Google settings / activate the option: ‘disable interest-based advertising’ and ‘reset advertising ID’)

  • iOS (privacy settings / open ‘advertising’ option / activate ‘limited ad tracking’ and ‘reset advertising ID’)

  •

Scopes of application:

Concerns applications only. The taking into account of the user’s choice is valid only for the device via which this choice was specified (see the Consent Management article for more details on the AT Internet context).

Geo-tracking refusal

Principles:

Certain mobile applications can record the location of users in real time by using the GPS coordinates. The user may choose not to transmit this information.

How to specify your choice:

  • Android (under general settings)

  • iOS (for each application under iOS general settings with two options: never send location or only when application is active).

  •

Scopes of application:

Concerns applications only. The taking into account of the web user’s choice is valid only for the device and browser via which this choice was specified.

Adblocker

Principle :

It is possible to download advertising blockers on certain browsers (e.g. Adblock Plus). These modules operate on the principle of domain name blocking lists, certain of which may contain domain names relative to data collection via Web Analytics solutions such as Piano Analytics. In this context, data collection may thus be impacted for users having activated these modules.

How to specify your choice:

The main browsers provide access to a list of downloadable modules via their menu.

Scopes of application:

The taking into account of the web user’s choice is valid only for the device and browser via which this choice was specified and for the duration of the session.

To bypass this issue, we offer a data collection solution under your own domain name (do not hesitate to contact our teams for more information on the scope of application of data collection).
