# AB Tasty

## About AB Tasty

AB Tasty is an A/B testing solution that's simple and intuitive.

AB Tasty enables you to modify the pages of a website or a mobile application without any technical knowledge in order to conduct A/B tests. The solution also offers an audience segmentation tool to personalise navigation experiences and content.

Other analysis tools enrich this suite: session replay, heatmaps, sales animation, notifications, email collection, etc.

Learn more: <https://www.abtasty.com/>

## Interconnect AB Tasty \& Piano Analytics

AB Tasty and *Piano Analytics* have developed a module enabling you to automatically tag your testing campaigns in order to display results in your analytics solution. This integration enables you to track the performance of different populations (original, variation A, variation B, etc.) and to study your visitors' behaviour in detail (segmentation, retention, cohorts, etc.).

AB Tasty uses the *Piano Analytics* "**MV Testing** " tagging module to track A/B test displays. (more info here: [https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/piano-analytics/data-collection/how-to-send-events/standard-events#mv-testing)](https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/piano-analytics/data-collection/how-to-send-events/standard-events#mv-testing)

### Note

There are several versions of this connector, compatible with the different versions of your tag:

* "AT Internet" (*xtcore*SDK)

* "AT Internet SmartTag" (*SmartTag*SDK)

* "Piano Analytics" (*Piano Analytics*SDK)

![schéma update.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_52031ce8ba02cc41be6a9d20dd2e8ef2eee0462a81fdbc7525d5a650d6947359/19865500834322?cb=5f7ab0db6b17e5c1f109972e70bd6ea3)

### Enable *Piano Analytics* tagging in the AB Tasty interface

The process is simple -- connect to your AB Tasty interface, go to the [Integrations](https://app2.abtasty.com/settings/integration/third-party-tools) configuration page and activate the *Piano Analytics* connector.
![21018683001106](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_719f0ef19124a3ecdb8dd894b61167ed94901302a63a91e5dc3498af9afb9cba/21018683001106?cb=da4d904ca4c3bff7cbf5259acd9ba333)

When you activate the integration, the interface prompts you to enter a wave number. This variable enables you to add an extra level of granularity to your analysis, should you wish to distinguish between several versions of your campaign, for instance. You can also fill in this field arbitrarily with any integer.

Once this configuration has been set, integration will be automatically activated for your new A/B test campaigns. To activate it for your existing campaigns, go to the advanced campaign options and select the *Piano Analytics* connector.
![21018697171474](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ccf08a6b30f675fac5234a95a871f63d02e2b386c47a76e74e23615e43d45467/21018697171474?cb=5979292e567337dda17edf1604f74c6c)

## Analyse your AB testing performance

Once *Piano Analytics* tagging has been activated on your AB Tasty campaigns, you will be able to view the results from Explorer's "**Content \> MV Testing** " analysis, or from any application in the *Piano Analytics* suite.

The connector feeds the following properties from the "mv_test.display" event:
![21018697171986](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_81ddc019acb285f66440f230a7cc2c0602c423cb0bfa386f0528c5bc6688a243/21018697171986?cb=e944a26b297fe23fd03bbdb329008632)

## Export your Piano Analytics audiences (segments)

You can export your Piano Analytics audiences to AB Tasty.

To benefit from the segment Pull integration, you must first create an API Key from your Piano Analytics profil ([documentation](https://support.piano.io/hc/en-us/articles/4466006444306-API-Keys)).

Next, you'll need to declare a new property in your Piano Analytics data model, which will contain AB Tasty's visitor ID. This ID will be the matching key, so that AB Tasty can correctly identify the users of your Piano Analytics segments in their solution.

Here's the property to declare:
![capture process segment import.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_3884cdba969ac62b24ba93189f11359f352bf86e665c59d9238c31e17ad4a5bd/19864895691794?cb=112d883f98b62e102f9c56bcc32b3576)

Remember to enter the exact same "abtasty_visitor_id" key, to ensure a perfect matching with the AB Tasty tag.

Also remember to select the "Visit" scope so that your AB Tasty's visitor ID is present in every event of the visit for each of your visitors.

You will then need to get your site ID, available from the [Data Collection Portal](https://collection.atinternet-solutions.com/#/dashboard) :
![17476793262226](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_5c732e5319a89606f7d7b90eb9a8c7e6abe569ab7248a18a0eba7553f334e70f/17476793262226?cb=dc0b635dbe186b44024ceac8ce42268e)

Then go to the AB Tasty interface and follow the steps below:

1. Access **Integrations \> Integration Hub \> Pull**.

<!-- -->

2. Search for and select **Piano Analytics**.

<!-- -->

3. Click **Setup connector.**

![17476793269778](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b1e90ed218d66278dac9e48eb43e87c167a708507e7b29f14a9bfd0360945173/17476793269778?cb=bd3a83a58042034cc01ca49b02e91ac8)

4. Give the connector a name so you can find it easily, then enter your API key in *accesskey_secretkey* format*,* as well as your Site ID:

![17476793282706](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_7fc54c0df6029b53f0dfa990c0c48d9481f232b08b1a1b3ba7c1f2e44cce557e/17476793282706?cb=8c31cb4c097705fed554d6f3abb8659c)

Piano Analytics is now set up. No other action is required here. This will allow AB Tasty to display the audiences that will be sent by Piano Analytics.

Once you have activated and configured an integration, you can retrieve your segment traits in the segment builder (available when you create a new segment).
![12111719195036](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_e25b0bc8455c308f83c32a589216db9ab189b0ffdb2dfadf967cc201f007ca29/12111719195036?cb=17d8fc2c3fd00ce75eec57ef1d8fcc06)

* Only the editors of a board (or the administrator of the organization) can edit, share or delete that board.

### Viewing

➡️ Public boards:

* All users, regardless of their role, can view a public board.

* Private reports incorporated into a public board are visible to all users who view it. They cannot be viewed outside the board.

➡️ Private boards:

* Only the owners of a private board can view it.

## Manage the Workspaces bar

The Workspaces bar corresponds to the list of Workspaces displayed on the left. From it, you can create Workspaces, control which ones appear, set a default, and change their order.

### Create a Workspace

To create a new Workspace, click the **"+"** button on the Workspaces bar, on the left.
![image-20260729-083256.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_23352f31382453e47e38607250c592240c7ca7a8d029371e2840aaea5e96a5d8/image-20260729-083256.png?cb=e06cbe46878392ece72ac05f16297c25)

### Reorder the Workspaces

You can change the order in which Workspaces appear in the bar:

1. Open the hamburger menu (the three horizontal lines above the list of Workspaces).

2. Click the edit pencil.

3. Hover over the Workspaces --- drag-and-drop icons appear on the left.

4. Drag a Workspace to the position you want and drop it.

### Set a default Workspace

You can define a Workspace to open automatically each time you launch Piano Analytics. This lets you skip the manual selection step and land directly on the Workspace you use most often.

Your default Workspace is a **personal preference** --- it only affects your own experience and doesn't change what other users see.

To set a Workspace as your default:

1. Open the **hamburger menu** (the three horizontal lines above the list of Workspaces).

2. Click the **edit**pencil.

3. Hover over the Workspace you want to set as default. A **"..."** icon appears at the end of the Workspace name.

4. Click the **"..."** icon and select **Set as default Workspace**.

![Animation13-20260702-100747.gif](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_0a128bd7366a4a05819dcbdc425d92cdcbcd524f5f8880ed5e6b6ef5be9d0b63/Animation13-20260702-100747.gif?cb=97bd5704e0697789ff423e7f99d5f7c4)

The next time you access Piano Analytics, this Workspace will load automatically. You can change your default at any time by repeating these steps with a different Workspace.

### Remove a Workspace from the bar

Removing a Workspace from the bar takes it off your list but does not delete it --- you can add it back at any time.

1. Open the hamburger menu.

2. Click the edit pencil.

3. Hover over the Workspace you want to remove. A **"..."** icon appears at the end of the Workspace name.

4. Click the **"..."** icon and select **Remove**.

![image-20260729-083731.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_08a46bf452e123fc1fff5e744add8f98988929587d865827728ffd7b483f8756/image-20260729-083731.png?cb=7e5c6d9ab3f1fc845ef286c9b3887e51)

### Add a Workspace back to the bar

If you previously removed a Workspace, you can add it back to the bar:

1. Open the Workspace from the Library.

2. In the Workspaces bar, a **"+"** button appears.

3. Click the **"+"** button to add the Workspace back to the bar.

# Access security

## Introduction

Administrators can control access to the Solution via a list of authorized IPs. Once the feature is activated, only users in the organization who log in with one of the specified IPs will be able to access Piano Analytics.

### Note

This feature is only available to the organization's administrators, excluding delegated administrators.

## Application scope

By default, there are no IP address restrictions for access to the Piano Analytics solution. The organization's administrator has the option of limiting access by expressly declaring the permitted IP addresses in the form of rules.

One rule applies to the entire organization:

* Access to the Piano Analytics solution and API Data calls are restricted according to the rules defined by the administrators

* All Piano Analytics suite products are affected by the application of the rules

### Note

SSO user access is also subject to this rule.

## Creating a rule

Authorizations are configured in the "Access Management" application, then in the Security \> Permitted IP addresses submenu.

Administrators can declare IP addresses in three IP/CIDR/RANGE formats:

* IP: in the following format: 192.0.2.1

* CIDR: IP address grouping in the following format: 192.0.2.0/24

* RANGE IP: range of IP addresses, in the following format: 192.0.2.1 - 192.0.2.255

### Be careful!

The administrator must declare their own IP address (displayed in the interface) when creating the first rule: a check is made at the time of validation and a warning message appears if necessary.

Steps:

1. Choose the type of IP address

2. Declare the value(s)

3. Define a name for the rule

![image-20241004-100629.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b25bc5dab07dd72804fdef99220ea4a516b63b7b0df3f268833a1ec193a32cb3/image-20241004-100629.png?cb=f7e21c4889fa20567c485364bbd1192a)

#### Be careful!

Only public IP addresses can be declared in a rule.

After being created, the rule appears in the list with:

* the type (IP/CIDR/RANGE)

* the value(s)

* the name of the rule

* the email of the administrator who created it

* the creation date

Once the permissions are activated, any user attempting to connect to the Piano Analytics solution or make an API Data call will be denied access (HTTP 403 error) if their IP address is not one of the permitted addresses.

## Deleting a rule

A rule cannot be edited but can be deleted by clicking on the trash can icon in the listing table.
![image-20241004-100646.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_af5693c18676ff2948a512b717f365f58febdefef17b19276017df3301e36b10/image-20241004-100646.png?cb=5b7d955d00a96bd24b3fc8d7dc605e9e)

### Do you need to whitelist IP addresses for security reasons?

You can contact our support center to get the most recent IP addresses to whitelist.

## Data Availability

Some data will not be available on*Data Flow*. The reason is simple: these properties are calculated "on-the-fly" and are not stored. For example, we don't know in advance if a ongoing visit will be considered as "bounce" visit. Because of this, the property "visit_bounce" can't be included to Data Flow.

## Scheduling

The*Data Flow* export scheduling system are not based on complete time periods. Every time a file is sent (every 15, 30 or 60 minutes), all new data inserted in the database since the last export is sent. Because of this certain events relating to an earlier file may be included in the latest file. Because of this process we can ensure we do not miss out on any events.

Data Flow exports are valid for 12 months, at which time they will exire. You will receive a notification via email 1 month prior to the expiration date reminding you to extend the export.

## Data Partitioning

*Data Flow* includes a new feature: partitioning. Since files do not cover complete time periods, partitioning allows you to organize your files according to the time period they contain. This period is based on the UTC date of data collection (hit_time_utc property).

You can choose your level of partitioning:

* Date

* Date / Time

* Date / Time / Half hour

* Date / Time / Quarter hour

Let's take a concrete example. Let's imagine that you have created an export with a date/time level partitioning. The export is called myExport, it is sent to a folder "myFolder".

The content of the table at the time of extraction is as follows:

|---------------------|--------------|-----|
| **Hit_time_utc**    | **event_id** | ... |
| 08/04/2021 10:58:14 | 192746238290 | ... |
| 08/04/2021 10:59:27 | 192746857489 | ... |
| 08/04/2021 11:00:28 | 387362092413 | ... |
| 08/04/2021 11:01:45 | 238290192746 | ... |

The dataset spans accross two hour intervals, it will therefore be split into two different files. In the case of an S3 export destination :

myFolder/myExport/data/**date=2021-04-08/hour=10**/data_36_019ac5aa-3252-4738-0000-03d5ba4052ba_001_0_0.csv.gz

and

myFolder/myExport/data/**date=2021-04-08/hour=11**/data__36_019ac5aa-3252-4738-0000-03d5ba4052ba_001_0_0.csv.gz

The first file will contain the extracted events with hit_time_utc property values between 10:00:00 and 10:59:59, the second file will contain events with a hit_time_utc property values between 11:00:00 and 11:59:59. If in the next iteration we identify new events belonging to the 11:00:00 - 11:59:59 time interval, a new file will be created in the /hour=11/ folder.

In the case of a (s)FTP upload, the logic is similar, only the file name change. As folders cannot be dynamically created, it is the file names themselves that carry the time interval information:

myFolder/myExport_**2021-04-08_10**_data_36_019ac5aa-3252-4738-0000-03d5ba4052ba_001_0_0.csv.gz

myFolder/myExport_**2021-04-08_11**_data_36_019ac5aa-3252-4738-0000-03d5ba4052ba_001_0_0.csv.gz

## Format

Once your flow is created, you will receive the files generated by *Data Flow* directly on your Amazon S3/sFTP server. Each generated file is compressed in GZ format. The file names include a naming convention managed by Snowflake which can be found at the end of the file name as follows:

data_#GUID#_#NumberingSnowFlake#.format

You will find examples in the previous paragraph.

In order to speed up the processing, Snowflake executes the request in different parts on several machines. Because of this you may receive multiple files for the same time interval.

**Important :**

Regarding **CSV**exports, we recommend you not to base your treatments on the columns indexes or property names but on their property key, as we column indexes \& property names are subject to change.

In **JSON**exports, properties with a null value won't appear for the relevant event.

## Delivery report

After each files generation on your Amazon S3 bucket / sFTP, you will also receive a ".report" file which will contain the list of all generated files' names you have just received.

If you have received a file which name is not included in any delivery report, then this file is not complete and you should not take it into account.

Receiving this delivery report validates the generation and delivery of exports on a given time period.

E.g. : at 10:20 UTC a generation is launched, resulting in three generated data files:

* myFolder/myExport/data/date=2021-10-31/hour=09/min=45-60/data_019ac5aa-3252-4738-0000-03d5ba4052ba_001_0_0.csv.gz

* myFolder/myExport/data/date=2021-10-31/hour=10/min=00-15/data_049fc5da-3372-8338-1200-08f7bc4801cz_001_0_0.csv.gz

* myFolder/myExport/data/date=2021-10-31/hour=10/min=00-15/data_049fc5da-3372-8338-1200-08f7bc4801cz_002_0_0.csv.gz

Once these three files have been *entirely* sent to your S3 bucket / sFTP, a delivery report named *#timestamp#_delivery.report* will be sent to you, it will contain all three delivered filenames and will validate the fact that you can import their content with confidence.

### History generation

Regeneration exports relating to past time intervals will be based on the same level of partitioning as your production exports. The regeneration can be done in a separate folder.

In order to be able to generate datasets for past time periods from date X to date Y and to minimize the risk of duplicates or data gaps, here is the procedure to follow:

* If you have not already done so, set your flow live with the desired frequency.

* At Y+1, you have to delete the data that you have ingested from your database with a query as follows: DELETE \* FROM #mytable# WHERE hit_time_utc \< Y+1

* The Piano Analytics team will create a past interval regeneration ticket for the Export team specifying :

  * Your customer account on which the production export was created

  * The name of your export

  * The exact period to be regenerated (X to Y)

**It is possible that some flows in production may contain duplicates** . This is not inherent to*Data Flow* but to the collection of data. These duplicates will also appear in *Data Query* on the day in real time. Duplicates are removed on D+1 in the real-time data table, but this has no impact on Data Flow files already consumed.

In case of a real time delay, events not included in a file will be included in the following files, always based on their date of insertion in the table. In which case, one can have smaller files than usual over a period and then larger files in the following iteration(s).

# Subscription Insights Acquisition Performance Board

The Acquisition Performance Board is designed to evaluate and understand the value of Composer in the context of acquisition, as well as to identify opportunities for optimizing the subscription.

The content is organized into three main analytical use cases:

* **Overall Composer Revenue and Value**: Analyze the revenue generated by Composer and assess the value it brings to the client. This section also helps identify changes in acquisition trends (Summary tab).

* **Effectiveness of Audience Targeting**: Evaluate the effectiveness of targeting strategies and uncover potential opportunities by using the Revenue per Visitor metric (Audience tab).

* **Impact of Changes on Composer Experience**: Assess the impact of modifications to the Composer experience, including structure, settings, and acquisition marketing tools such as campaigns or promotions (Composer tab).

*The board defaults to a time period of the past 7 days, with period comparison enabled.*

## **Summary Tab**

### KPI tiles

The KPI tiles highlight the most important metrics to summarize the value of Composer activities in the context of new conversions and new revenue. Three main metrics are used in the KPI tiles:

1. **Experience Revenue as New Composer Revenue**: This metric summarizes all revenue generated through Composer experiences, including new purchases for subscriptions, one-time payments, gifts, etc. It excludes renewals or conversion revenue originating outside of Composer experiences.

2. **Experience Payment Converted Visitors as New Composer Payment Converted Visitors**: This metric identifies unique visitors (defined at the cookie level) who have made a purchase, including payment or dynamic term conversions.

3. **Experience Converted Visitors as New Composer Converted Visitors**: This metric captures the total number of conversions, including non-monetary conversions such as registration term conversions, AdBlock disablement, access redemption, and more.

![image-20240808-085829.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_313b261da5a2068811d5dea19c761497cf0d5841bb45abc192e003a6fcb913cf/image-20240808-085829.png?cb=9cc86b3e9e2e2aec35a95fd76f4489e2)

### Overall new Composer revenue

The chart illustrates the monetary value of Composer conversions over time, with the goal of identifying unexpected drops and spikes in the revenue trend. To evaluate non-monetary conversions, such as registrations, alongside monetary ones, simply select "Experience Converted Visitors" from the dropdown list of metrics. It excludes renewals or conversion revenue originating outside of Composer experiences.
![image-20240808-090907.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_bea842a20aca4841a4dc0eec5051133dbd48059f85a29d0cc148544ca78eeb2c/20907670441746?cb=8aab87c9e6560d24d112770c35abfaa4)

### Payment conversions by billing period

This chart is designed to analyze the volume of payment conversions by term billing period over time. To analyze revenue instead of volume, select the "Experience Revenue" metric from the dropdown list. For a client running a subscription business, it's crucial to understand the ratio of new acquisition periods, as longer billing periods typically lead to better retention and higher lifetime value.

The chart provides a period-over-period comparison.
![image-20240808-091650.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_de9191be36529121fe7caa34053d1248cef3de075e5e243519b1b5a8c8718918/20907670445970?cb=d3a24e072af095b368449dab96bece16)

### Top 5 terms by revenue \& Top 5 terms by conversions \& Top 5 terms by Subscription Lifetime Value

Both charts comparing the top 5 terms should highlight the difference between the total conversions and the revenue generated by each term. For instance, while there may be many conversions from Term X with a monthly billing period, the most valuable term in terms of revenue could be Term Y, which has an annual billing period. In these tiles you can find the conversion values in the context of Subscription Lifetime Value

### Likelihood To subscribe (LTs) score

These charts are beneficial for clients using the C1x segment Likelihood to Subscribe (LtS) metric, as they help assess the overall effectiveness of subscription acquisition targeting by LtS segment. The goal is to ensure that segments with the highest propensity scores (7, 8, and 9) generate the highest revenue per visitor. To learn more about C1x segment Likelihood to Subscribe please see the [documentation](https://docs.piano.io/lts-likelihood-to-subscribe/). If the data in the chart are empty, please make sure you are using the segment in the live experiences so we can collect the data.

# Activation Insights Editorial Performance Board

The Editorial Performance Board evaluates the content impact in the context of the audience acquisition journey and subscription revenues

The content is organized into three main analytical use cases:

* **Understand the new subscription revenue in the context of site traffic** and content that is being produced.

* **Compare the readership preferences and browsing behavior** for most important audience segments such as "Anonymous" visitors, "Known users without access" to restricted content, and "Subscribers" with the ability to alter the segments

* **Analyze the impact of acquisition strategies in the context of articles** and identify which content attributes have better total and relative performance results.

* **Learn additional insights about content**impact on subscription revenues by analyzing additional data coming from Audience - Content profiles.

*The board defaults to a time period of the past 7 days, with period comparison enabled.*

## Overview tab

### KPI tiles

The KPI tiles help to highlight the most important data points regarding audience traffic and new revenue. There are two tiles displayed side by side: the first tile considers all types of content, while the second is filtered specifically for article content type.

* **Total Site Traffic: Main KPIs** provide insights into the overall traffic volume and new subscription revenues. A key KPI to track over time is the Subscription ARPU, which represents the average new subscription revenue per 1,000 visitors to the website.

* Article Content Traffic: Main KPIs focus on a subset of traffic specific to articles, identified using the "content type" meta tag in your data. By comparing the two KPI tiles side by side, you can understand the proportion of traffic and content that is relevant for total site traffic versus article-specific traffic.

![image-20250104-095031.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_1300c91715df7e9fc07ab092242944873607af0a0da15a7986ff680954248b47/image-20250104-095031.png?cb=97c7a27058e10cec5a7a337737be14b2)

#### Bar and timeline charts

If you want to understand how content is being tagged and the traffic or revenue associated with it, refer to the set of charts below the KPI tiles. These charts reflect how conversions are attributed to articles, landing pages, or other content types.

If there is a significant portion of "N/A" values, we recommend addressing this by refining the data definitions in the Composer or PA SDK. To learn more check our [documentation](https://docs.piano.io/implementing-pianos-latest-sdk?paragraphId=5ab19322743d9a1).
![image-20250104-095929.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_c0532534cdafd611273c9ee45a51899cf278eb1f329bd1d25066ecee366b7148/image-20250104-095929.png?cb=a3a56172787437940b7fe586899dd3d3)

### Audiences

Gaining insights into audience behavior differences---such as editorial preferences and browsing habits---is crucial for making data-driven decisions to optimize acquisition strategies or improve subscription retention. Understanding these behavioral differences between segments can help identify key attributes that inform decisions about optimizing Composer experiences or determining which content to lock or keep accessible to a broader audience.

The segments used on the Audience page of the Editorial Performance Board are as follows:

* **Anonymous Visitors**: Represents any visitor browsing the website who is either logged out or not registered.

* **Registered Without Access**: Identifies logged-in users who do not have access to locked content.

* **Subscribers**: Represents users with access to locked content through a purchased subscription.

These segments can be adjusted using the filter function on each chart tile. For example, if you want to compare the behavior of **Site Licensing Subscribers**, you can do so by selecting that segment in the tile filter instead of one of the segments mentioned above.

#### Traffic KPIs

To analyze the volume of traffic or engagement statistics for each segment, refer to the initial KPI charts. You can adjust the chart metrics by clicking on the "Visitor" metric.
![image-20250104-101111.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_e296c21082e99f8840120a5bdd59141e79408fa087a7899bd577393087daeaee/image-20250104-101111.png?cb=ba364ee4467ab74f363f90bf9ec5d626)

#### Traffic by content type

The breakdown of browsing patterns by content type for each audience segment helps identify the level of internal browsing circulation, particularly between the homepage, articles, and front page. If you notice a significant portion of "N/A" values, we recommend reviewing the [SDK implementation](https://docs.piano.io/implementing-pianos-latest-sdk?paragraphId=5ab19322743d9a1), specifically the "Content type" field.
![image-20250104-101733.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_a819bf870935713f860a32a24cc3290a2cd6cb95bad3004201f23105253d8e1d/image-20250104-101733.png?cb=43563bc1bc1bcd42b03f9d8da83ed515)

#### Top 10 Articles

To understand the relationship between traffic volumes and new subscription revenues in relative terms, and to identify articles with the highest relative value in the context of subscriptions, refer to these charts.

The property "Article" used in these charts represents the last article viewed before the conversion event. This means that even if you attribute conversions to a landing page, these charts allow you to analyze the true content source of the conversion event. #### Top 10 Sections

Use these charts to gain insights into the total and relative value of each section in the context of subscriber acquisition. The Subscription ARPU metric helps identify sections that contribute not only the highest total traffic or new subscription revenues but also the highest relative value.

For example, while the "Travel" section may not rank at the top for Page views or Experience turnover, it has the highest Subscription ARPU. This suggests that focusing more on the monetization of "Travel" articles could improve subscriber acquisition.

### Retention

The Retention Board provides key KPIs to evaluate digital subscription performance, including detailed cohort-based retention metrics. The Cohort Retention table shows how many users who subscribed in a given month remain active over time, helping identify retention trends and estimate subscription lifetime value. For deeper insights, use filters to analyze specific cohorts or terms over longer time periods.

#### Cohort size

The Cohort Size chart provides insights into the volume of new subscriptions created during each specific month-year cohort period. It is used to calculate cohort retention by evaluating the ratio of still-active subscriptions out of all conversions within the cohort. The chart displays the most recent cohorts in descending order; to view the full list, expand the tile or refer to the table below. All subscription terms are aggregated in the chart---use the tile filter to view data for a specific term.
![image-20250630-095342.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_858d1522e282966a5d8789b378f8980d75c9b1c4d6a2e9e71c49527d56b20fa3/image-20250630-095342.png?cb=4639549e504a9e895d2aa0d686c7e15b)

### Active churn

Active churn is an essential aspect of retention. In the context of subscription businesses, it refers to proactive subscription cancellations or the customer disabling subscription auto-renewal. To optimize active churn, it is important to understand its volume, identify the factors driving it, and evaluate strategies that help to reduce it. The board page focuses on the evaluation of active churn, provides insights into the C1x segment [Likelihood to Cancel](https://docs.piano.io/composer-1x-segments/#ltc), and offers the evaluation of the [Active churn prevention](https://docs.piano.io/template-interaction-active-churn-prevention/) feature.

#### Active Churn - Subscriptions Turning Autorenewal Off

Active churn evaluation relies on Subs billing subscriptions. In Subs billing, a subscription can either be canceled with immediate effect, or the customer can disable auto-renewal, allowing the subscription to expire at the next renewal date. It is important to monitor active churn events and to understand the volume of subscriptions that are still active but set to expire upon the next renewal because such subscribers can be targeted in Composer as C1x segment [Expiring subscribers](https://docs.piano.io/composer-1x-segments/#expiringsubscribers).
![image-20250102-125242.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_4e92297e3fdb9197289e82717e3c375ae1f3e8b220e73484c0ec034f2890a70a/image-20250102-125242.png?cb=356ce3997d35d6a65f93d4eb58686bb3)

#### Active Churn - Subscriptions Turning Autorenewal Off by Billing Period

To understand differences in active churn by billing periods or to identify any time series anomaly, use the next chart. There are two default metrics to be used: "Expired subscriptions" and "Cancelled subscriptions".
![image-20250102-130127.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_67eb859f89f110993869beafa6d44d05f0d022962d3906861bc2ff5bd8dca32c/image-20250102-130127.png?cb=aa809ef6357131069dbda0738011bb09)

#### Active Subscriptions With Autorenewal Off by Term

If you are interested in the current subscription base which has auto-renewal turned off to identify an opportunity to win these subscribers back, see the next charts by a specific term. If you want to see the full list of terms, expand the chart tile.
![Screenshot 2025-01-02 140728.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b0699a8bb74199d50e7a1c2426f869f3cabbe907b15aba441d682fe1c20b8064/Screenshot%202025-01-02%20140728.png?cb=f522425dbc9b51a918aa7090f5fd8e60)

#### Prediction Model - Likelihood to Cancel

The Likelihood to Cancel category of segments leverages Piano's LtC algorithm to segment subscribers based on the likelihood they would cancel their subscription, allowing you to identify the biggest factors driving cancellation and target high and low-cancellation-risk subscribers individually. Models output a probability score between 0 to 100 for each subscriber based on their likelihood to cancel. Subscribers are then broken into 10 segments that can be targeted using Composer, with 0-9 as the least likely to cancel and 90-100 as the most likely to cancel.
![image-20250102-130705.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_54be5b565006140ed21299fb8e889b31e880c34f69550c681749ad8665ff2fcf/image-20250102-130705.png?cb=4c7b68c005ef55e0296e77af8f762b8c)

#### Active Churn Prevention Experience

Active Churn Prevention is a feature that allows you to engage subscribers when they are on the verge of cancellation. Reacting to their actions in My Account with responsive and interactive Composer flows, you present targeted messaging, special offers, and feedback mechanisms stimulating user retention. The following section of the Active churn page in the subscription board focuses on the most important churn prevention KPIs to understand the ratios of customers exposed to churn prevention templates or upgrade offers.
![image-20250102-131617.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_99e8fcc3fcb46404733a3852bda2341cad9c53923c10274d9802b1d403a91cb5/image-20250102-131617.png?cb=733414c3151f92420e3544ca66c635bc)

## \[Ad Revenue Insights\] Ad Ops: Ad Revenue Tracking

This board offers a comprehensive view of ad revenue trends over time, segmented by order name, line item type, advertiser, and content section. Designed for ad operations teams and stakeholders who require granular ad data, it provides the tools needed to analyze fluctuations in ad revenue and optimize performance effectively.

With this board, users can quickly pinpoint the root causes of ad revenue variances, address technical issues, assess vendor and sales performance, and make data-driven decisions about the ad stack. By delivering these insights, the board empowers teams to identify revenue opportunities in real time, enhance operational efficiency, and drive smarter, more strategic decision-making to maximize overall ad revenue.

# Additional Resources

These Ad Revenue Insights boards, as powerful as they are, are just the beginning of what can be done in Piano Analytics. For Composer clients, in addition to all the rich ad and subscription data available within these Workspaces, the entire Composer Insights data model is also accessible and can be leveraged in analysis. For more details on the Composer Insights data model, see [this documentation](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/en/analytics/v1/data-model-structure.md).

For clients with access to the entirety of Piano Analytics, when any one of these boards is opened in full screen mode, you can open these boards in Data Query, which is the advanced analyst tool at the heart of Piano Analytics that enables far greater levels of data manipulation and analysis.

Within Data Query, you can not only modify the existing reports, you can build new ones with the full expanse of data points available, including the ability to create your own filters, segments, and custom metrics.

After familiarizing yourself with the Ad Revenue Insights Boards, if you want to explore the capabilities of Data Query, please contact your Account Manager to discuss whether there is incremental cost (which is dependent on the scope of your current contract) and to arrange a demo of these advanced Piano Analytics capabilities.

**Prerequisites :**

* Have a Piano Analytics account.

* Have an Adjust account.

* Have sufficient rights in Piano Analytics ("Admin", "Data Supervisor"), and Adjust (Admin, Editor).

## Configurations in Piano Analytics

The integration with Adjust allows you to collect the following events:

* adjust.installs

<!-- -->

* adjust.reinstalls

<!-- -->

* adjust.uninstalls

<!-- -->

* adjust.reattributions

These events must be declared as such (case-sensitive) from your Data Model in Data Management \> [Events](https://analytics.piano.io/datamanagement/#/data-model/events/list/):

![mceclip0-20241009-090048.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_cd6468e8b01f0ba4aa38c00abdd9e765f1f47bf556de941f90142660ef458804/mceclip0-20241009-090048.png?cb=250a3b27d17f67a7c00e5e6e4880da5e)

[Under this link](https://support.piano.io/hc/en-us/articles/4465959709202-Events#Createanevent) you will find instructions for declaring a Piano Analytics event.

When the user performs one of these actions (install, reinstall...), Adjust uses methods like the advertising identifier (IDFA for iOS or GAID for Android) or fingerprinting techniques to associate the action with a previous click or impression. This click or impression is then linked to the specific advertising campaign and other relevant metadata (for reference, after the installation of an application (or other action), Adjust continues to track in-app events (such as purchases, sign-ups, etc.) and attributes them to the initial installation source).

Each event we collect is therefore sent with campaign parameters related to the attribution performed by Adjust.

Here is the mapping of the parameters we collect through the events:

|---------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------|------------------------------------|
| **Adjust SDK parameters** | **Information** | **Piano Analytics SDK parameters** |
| `{session_count}` | Number of sessions recorded by the current Adjust SDK | app_sc |

This list is not exhaustive, as you can track custom parameters according to your needs (see Mapping below).

## Configurations in Adjust

Once in your Adjust interface, under **Campaign Lab \> Partners**, add a new partner:

![mceclip7-20241009-090149.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_620f60773d5938725f661684137a187b4e13a0ba804698601c1040d6613dbaeb/mceclip7-20241009-090149.png?cb=f8fe817331b1a7048e792f53d4f52b5b)

Look for **Piano Analytics** :

![mceclip1-20241009-093150.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_18e15fe62e53c8ec3dd6ca51ea23a0381062f126db97ea1a343fea8105fad5e5/mceclip1-20241009-093150.png?cb=a95462d61c359b2fc066c5bd3a9e63c5)

Then select your application, normally already registered:

![mceclip2-20241009-093207.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_80ebd3eb5452b094fce2ce7170890e6280ae441d6f6e6ceb723e95b5f5af0326/mceclip2-20241009-093207.png?cb=5926a14f4bc2177ec1d1ca804cce5ba9)

From the Data Sharing menu, you'll need to authorize data sharing between the two solutions. Click on "Edit" and enter the collection domain of your application perimeter, as well as its site ID (you'll find this information in the Data Collection Portal, [here](https://analytics.piano.io/datacollection/#/dashboard) for the site ID, and [there](https://analytics.piano.io/datacollection/#/collection-domains) for the domain) :

![mceclip4-20241009-093245.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_d2281aaa23151965bc09e0eee2b767b377d425591f15713f4808349a834421bf/mceclip4-20241009-093245.png?cb=c01bed88002ff899e98dc57c232c79f9)

When sharing is enabled, by default the integration sends the 4 events install, reinstall, uninstall, reattribution.

You can choose to send **additional data** via the Mapping option, by checking the "Parameters" box:

![mceclip1-20241009-093259.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_5128a8f309f927133719fd24e254ac8a66183a5fe4d705710d22096942505300/mceclip1-20241009-093259.png?cb=0abbcd5c96e7f1d05b71df325338e550)

Partner parameters (available from version 4.0 of the Adjust SDK) enable Adjust to collect custom data points from your application and send them directly to Piano Analytics. Piano Analytics then receives custom event details for each of your events.

### ***Add parameters through the Mapping option***

Before adding new parameters to the Adjust SDK, make sure that no other predefined partner settings already meet your requirements.

To share partner settings with Piano Analytics, proceed as follows:

1. Configure partner parameters in SDK Adjust.

2. Once the "Parameters" box has been ticked, select "Map parameter" in the box that has just appeared.

3. In the SDK Parameter field, enter the name of the Adjust SDK parameter you wish to track, and in the Partner Parameter field, enter the Piano Analytics parameter corresponding to the SDK Adjust parameter:

![mceclip0-20241009-093314.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_162eaabb826b0e62ae838fbfb2d5f6cb52c23fe1dd1bb58cdc7d18bef3d6ba9d/mceclip0-20241009-093314.png?cb=8474e3e9be75a8e0b408134e1923565c)

Once you are satisfied with your configuration, validate the integration:

![mceclip5-20241009-093327.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_4734449317bc56562f96841e4c438a264949f9cc9ebc333f838acc78b2f1e186/mceclip5-20241009-093327.png?cb=82dafb79ba79002bd2fa797ffa4c8f80)

The integration now appears in your partners as active:

![mceclip6-20241009-093341.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ba987ba86a715f9ff33cdf5e96581f75fc75f043b4c4c0e0afb2e4f86f620b80/mceclip6-20241009-093341.png?cb=27e4f7ff6aa47f35f9cf0b7defc1ae87)

# AI in Data Query

We've introduced new AI features in Data Query to help you explore your data faster and get more out of every report.

## AI Reveal

AI Reveal was already available in Workspaces --- we've now made it available in Data Query as well. Once you've created a dataset, you can launch **AI Reveal** to let our AI system analyze your data and surface actionable insights.
![Animation5-20260519-090202.gif](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_30cadfd2782be0da4757da2fabcfe56ff50357344cad158b9ef854656f7d0f8f/Animation5-20260519-090202.gif?cb=1d564d6edee01267073f2580df28fa07)

Check out our full [AI Reveal documentation](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/en/analytics/v1/piano-ai-reveal) for detailed instructions on how to use it, and what is taken into account.

## AI Query

### What is Piano AI Query?

**Piano AI Query** is a generative AI-powered assistant that simplifies data exploration by allowing you to **generate datasets directly from natural language prompts** . Integrated into **Data Query**, it enables both beginners and advanced users to access complex data without writing a single line of code.

With AI Query, you can:

* **Ask questions in natural language** and get a relevant dataset in return.

* **Save time** by skipping the manual setup of properties, metrics, and filters.

### How to use Piano AI Query

To get started:

1. Open **Data Query** in [++Piano Analytics++](https://analytics.piano.io/library/#/).

2. Look for the **AI Query input** at the bottom of the page.

3. Type your question (e.g., *"What are the top traffic sources last month?"*).

4. Hit enter and watch your prompt turn into a fully functional dataset.

![Animation2-20260507-145416.gif](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_3ea626affee3c30282e8219d292ec3750aa7c87839b123e0e608e6213ce487de/Animation2-20260507-145416.gif?cb=c4b1f4fe7b8ccd16516144f23cc67eaf)

### What Piano AI Query takes into account

To build the dataset, Piano AI Query relies on a combination of your prompt and the underlying data model, including:

* **Property and metric names and descriptions**

* **Queryable time ranges**

* **Access rights for sites**

No prior configuration is needed, but the **quality of metadata** (naming conventions, descriptions) significantly improves the relevance of the generated queries.

### Best practices for better results

* Use clear, business-oriented language in your prompt (e.g., *"How many visits came from mobile devices this year?"*).

* Make sure your data model is well-documented (titles, descriptions, consistent naming).

* Avoid vague or ambiguous terms when possible.

* Explore alternative phrasings if the first result isn't quite right.

Using **Piano AI Query** or [**Piano MCP**](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/en/analytics/v1/mcp) will result in the same output; there is no difference in using one or the other method.

### Transparency

Piano AI Query is powered by **Claude**, a large language model developed by Anthropic.

Behind the scenes, the feature relies on **a set of structured interactions with the model** rather than a single prompt. These exchanges are designed to:

* Interpret your natural language request.

* Understand and match it to the data model (properties, metrics, filters, segments, etc.).

* Build a valid dataset query, iteratively refining it when needed.

Currently, only **metadata and model structure** (e.g., available properties and metrics) are used in prompts. **No user-level data is passed to the model** at this stage.

⚠️ However, this may evolve:

As we introduce support for more advanced query features---such as filters and segments---we may need to access parts of the **underlying dataset (e.g., from Snowflake)** to correctly format or interpret those inputs. This could involve limited exposure of user-level data in a secure and controlled way. We will update this note accordingly when that happens.

All processing is conducted within the **geographic region associated with your contract**, and no data is stored beyond the active session.

## Send segment to Airship

*Piano Analytics* segmentations done in *Data Query* can also be sent to Airship in order to send a personalized push following visitors behavior.

One use case could be to target all visitors who have seen an episode of a sitcom. The export will be composed of all these users and sent to an Airship FTP. Airship will then be able to target all the visitors of dedicated information.

Use case below have been done by a streaming customer:

* A segment is created to list all users who have seen an episode of The Walking Dead

![mceclip1.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_be688e6d033744e6727f00ab50ced0a6dd6a9a35b3cf2f0a07ba42ed96f860ee/21017218136082?cb=53f5fb9d975c28d44d9af400b81a58c7)

## Privacy

Activating this partnership activates the import of Airship data into *Piano Analytics* tools and the export of *Piano Analytics* data into Airship. Only the data necessary for the proper functioning of the bridge are imported an exported.

## Anatomy of the analyses

The vast majority of the analyses are as follows:

\[1\]: Analysis information

\[2\]: Graph area

\[3\]: Graph toolbar

\[4\]: Table area

\[5\] : Segmentation

\[6\]: Actions to take on the analysis
![image-20241031-090848.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_36ebabe49ad0cab2ec82ee1641039f87d1eca74618b815f8f72711e91984c698/image-20241031-090848.png?cb=743795fd799169e2cf4db78e6098fc89)

## Analysis tree Explorer

In order to guarantee quick and easy access to the data, *Explorer* offers only three levels of tree structure: family of analyses (1), analyses (2), sub-analyses (3).

### Information

![image-20241031-090832.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_51de373c0fb4a97f57273d92d95d118e2a91ea2ddd680ad286771cfd0038fb25/image-20241031-090832.png?cb=6652fd8d4b12a455895e32b42fe90704)

The URLs used in Explorer allow direct access to analyses in the context of your choice. However, these URLs may change in the future. Therefore, we do not recommend bookmarking them, but rather creating customised views.

## Working with graphs

Each graph has a toolbar. From this toolbar, it is possible to

* Changing the type of graph (by default, curves are proposed) (1)

* In the case of curves, change the granularity (2)

* Select the metric to be used in the graph (3)

* Enable / disable options, depending on the type of graphic (4) :

  * Histograms: switch to horizontal histograms

  * Curves: show / hide min \& max, average, trend, enable / disable graph comparison, enable / hide event log display

  * Pie chart: show / hide the "Others" part

  * *AXON Analyst*: show/hide anomalies, trend, baseline and prediction

![image-20241031-090815.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_40fa32c26c1e88b26bccfffe60b3300e990fc838e63ab41cc47d63fa765eedb4/image-20241031-090815.png?cb=cfb40192a10ecb52aa8952b98b595f9f)

## Working with tables

### Headers

In order to facilitate the understanding and analysis of the data, the definition of each element (properties, metrics) in the table is proposed when hovering the mouse over the element's name (1). Each column can be sorted (it is not possible to sort several columns at the same time). The type of sorting as well as the filtered column are highlighted via an icon (2).

Filters can be applied to the elements of each column and can fulfil several OR, or AND conditions. Each condition must contain a filter criterion (strictly superior, superior or equal, equal, inferior or equal, ...) (3)

It is possible to combine filters from several columns.
![image-20241031-090801.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_db3caba0e55f68bd70743e236e21f98b29e154f5ebdcfd081e4397dac3a2250c/image-20241031-090801.png?cb=24b7ede6eb93618dd76760c3f7f555cb)

By default, only the most commonly used metrics are displayed. Additional metrics can be displayed - or hidden using the "Metrics" button at the top right of the table.

### Values

![image-20241031-090749.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ac7cdf305ff1fc3c0b297da5d1497bea3d071110c78d8eff92225740e52f2b65/image-20241031-090749.png?cb=dc5d829929b6b51511aedc1c2fd15b2f)

The values in the table are sorted by default on the first metric in descending order.

### Drill down

Some scans allow you to access additional information without having to reload the screen. This drill down functionality is materialised by a chevron, preceding each entry in the table (1). To activate it, simply click on the chevron. The drill down allows up to 3 sub-analyses to be displayed. For each one, we propose a top 5 of the elements in terms of visits (this metric is likely to change according to the analyses).

If you wish to obtain the complete list of elements, click on the title of the drill down (2).
![image-20241031-090656.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_68aaba66aa6275d1cf4ebc388ee47002e62e40cfe1de43cb9132af3e24c070be/image-20241031-090656.png?cb=544ecdcb03fb18abbce85e2730d4382e)

### Combinations

To go further in your analysis, you can create cross-combination of data. To do this, click on the "combine with" button (1), then select the property on which you wish to combine. A new column is added to the table, with the property you have just added. You can add up to 3 properties in addition to the standard one in the analysis.

To delete a combination, reopen the menu and deselect the items.

#### Notes

![image-20241031-090642.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_29c9438a25684f84457f6c771ed1a74dbcceb3e48bcd172ac98c7cb5fe624ba4/image-20241031-090642.png?cb=bd5b269d521db5cb735735a019bd26dd)

The "total" line shows the sum of all the elements of the analysis and not the total of the displayed elements.

### Updating the graph

The chart area can be manipulated from the table. It is possible to choose the elements to be displayed or hidden from each line. The interaction can be managed in two ways, depending on the needs:

1/ By clicking on the block at the beginning of the line. If the block is coloured, the line concerned will be displayed in the graph. If the block is in black and white, the line concerned will not be displayed in the graph.

2/ By selecting the elements to be displayed in the graph and then on the "Replace the items" button that appears at the top of the table. This action allows to "override" the elements of the graph and to replace them by the elements of the selection.

## Specific analyses

### Audience loyalty analysis

The Audience loyalty analysis provides a very interesting perspective into how and when your visitors return to your brand's various websites and applications following a visit made on a given day. Using this analysis you will be able to instantly visualise the proportion of visitors that have returned to your site and in which timeframe.

The Audience loyalty analysis is available for the following timeframes:

|-----------------------|-----------------|
| **Période d'analyse** | **Granularité** |
| 7 derniers jours      | Jours           |
| 14 derniers jours     | Jours           |
| 4 dernières semaines  | Semaine         |
| 14 dernières semaines | Semaine         |
| 3 derniers mois       | Mois            |
| 6 derniers mois       | Mois            |

**Example**: With the following retention analysis:
![image-20241031-090627.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_9e1fe659d800701cf203e936c1055d66b6f08ad756a2a633b87636b9f15bd5aa/image-20241031-090627.png?cb=cf29f645a9cd79b670f975fbc05a8b1b)

The results should be read in the following way:

(1) 724 visitors visited the website on the 20th of October 2021

(2) 14.0% of those visitors returned on the following day

(3) 13.7% of those visitors returned 6 days later

### Venn Diagram Visualisation

The Venn Diagramme visualisation provides a very interesting perspective into the cross over between two elements. Using this visualisation will enable you to instantly visualise user behaviour across many properties.

**Example**: With the following Venn Diagramm on users' devices:
![image-20241031-090612.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ca9e31aefeddffb1d7d4d2d6747e31ba0b89eb4c09a853c7c2f4882f770c939e/image-20241031-090612.png?cb=3c93a974b6bcbf5a85b18a505eafb964)

The results should be read in the following way:

(1) 404 users reached the site exlusively via mobile phones.

(2) 508 users reached the website at least once via a mobile phone.

(3) 89 users reached the site exlusively via mobile phones \& tablets.

(4) No user reached the website at least once via a mobile phone and a tablet.
![image-20241031-090556.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_1a4e5f56ed70ede563e5258b4e3f1bd13bacec6335d752a5851f846a1d9423e8/image-20241031-090556.png?cb=4117ee9a25b963b3f29607ea2e15a9e0)

(5) The Venn Diagram will highlight the corresponsing area when you hover over a specific element with your mouse. In this example, the area highlighted in green represents the user that reached the website exclusively with Tablets, excluding cross over with mobile phones and desktop.

## Segmentation

### Create a segment

Each analysis can be segmented according to the criteria of your choice. Segments can be created or selected from the "Segmentation" bar.

To create a segment from the segmentation bar, click on the "Add a segment" button (1). You will then have the possibility to create a segment on the fly, or to apply a segment previously created in *Explorer* or *Data Query* (2).
![image-20241031-090533.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ffb60e20b717b19803df92238a9b182a76188aee4919fb2a36681de90ec7dcb7/image-20241031-090533.png?cb=79b53333a9ae78fbe416c29728d48be0)

Any segment created on the fly will be available in all analyses - as long as the browser session remains open.

#### Good to know

A segment on the fly can cover up to 3 properties at a time. Each property can then contain up to 10 selected elements. For more advanced needs we recommend the use of advanced segmentation.

### Use a saved segment

Segmentation in *Explorer* can also be performed from segments that you have created and saved in *Explorer* or *Data Query*. By default, all saved segments you have access to are listed in the "Existing segments" tab.

#### Good to know

![image-20241031-090512.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ff2acd33462a24389415c0bbd81d48971b4cd9182c1f60e68887d1dbf31ffe02/image-20241031-090512.png?cb=041611a83193a9277f394fccefad123f)

It is not possible to combine several recorded segments with each other, nor is it possible to combine a "live" segment created on the fly with a saved segment.

### Apply a segment

In the segmentation bar, each segment is represented by a button. The bar makes it easy to switch from one segment to another in order to easily and efficiently compare the data of an analysis according to different segmentation criteria. This toggle is done via the "segment" button. Each button is built in the same way:

(1) Scope of the segment (by default, in *Explorer* , the scope is "visit")

(2) Actions to take on the segment: Activate, Deactivate or Delete
![image-20241031-090458.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_6a018ef28ef3cef4a177f4a8f527fc02c55861dcfdfc3af31e0a6aaba89de56e/image-20241031-090458.png?cb=a18c6b929fb8b3d6ec3458e14ec7997e)

If no segment is applied, select the "Activate" action of the segment of your choice to activate it.

Proceed in the same way if you wish to switch to another segment than the one applied. The old segment will automatically be deactivated in favour of the one you have just selected.

If you wish to deactivate a segment, use the "Deactivate" action. When a segment is activated, the corresponding button is highlighted with an orange border.

Once the segment has been applied, an orange band summarises its composition at the top of the analysis.

#### Tip

It is possible to compare segmented and non-segmented traffic via the "Comparison: non-segmented" option of the curves.

## Customised views

You can save all the modifications (filters, sorting, cross-referencing, etc.) made in an analysis in the form of "Views". These are then accessible in the Explorer submenus.

### Create a view

Click on the star at the top right of the analysis to save your view (1). Enter the information required to create it: name (required), description (optional, this will allow you to understand the details of what is behind the view), default view or not (see below).

Once you have validated the creation of the view, it will appear in the level 3 menu, instead of the standard analysis. Click on the chevron next to the analysis name to display all the views available for this analysis (2).

#### Note

![image-20241031-090433.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_297144b3a84d10a9f89a74035d15e381a56b2e41cedc857465c21db1a80223f5/image-20241031-090433.png?cb=81e1a9e8dd7c4dac958fef546ba5c700)

The saved items are as follows:

* Graph type (including *AXON Analyst*)

* Graph options (except comparison)

* Graph Metrics

* Combinations

* Filters, sorting applied in the table

* Metrics added / deleted in the table

* Hidden columns

This means that segments, sites and analysis periods are not taken into account when saving.

## Events \& notes

It is possible to annotate Explorer's analyses to record contextual information that may be useful: current event, launching a new application version, server problems, beginning \& end of sales etc.

These events can be created from any analysis. To create an event, you must display your data in the form of a curve. By hovering over the curve, and for each of the drawn points, you will have the possibility to add an annotation via the "+" button.
![image-20241031-090326.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_f02f3e3db3679ef717999aaa0b7a6fa7375e9a9eb4a99141b3a0a7518d8bb340/image-20241031-090326.png?cb=aa1668ddb6343268ba0ff59fb6f3f43a)

Enter your text, as well as the scope of the annotation. By default, this is "public", which means that it is visible to all members of your organisation. If you do not wish to share this information, simply deselect the "public" box and validate.
![image-20241031-090256.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_09a59f9c4c65947dc88fc2dd806f99bf0e3b780fcddd6b8c6cdade2a1bfb300c/image-20241031-090256.png?cb=43df87bfff250dbbdeaacea63ca11bd6)

The events created appear as bubbles at the top of the curve. To display the text of the annotation, click on the speech bubble. To delete it, hover over the text: then click on the trash can. You will be asked for confirmation.

To avoid visual overloads, you can disable the display of this event log. To do this, open the options in the graph and deselect the option "display events".
![image-20241031-090244.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_a97fd376a2c23d200ee2c2a4dab6508d68a2f419385ba05f333b47fd1a0b2882/image-20241031-090244.png?cb=e5694e755f589dd2acd66a43897adbae)

### Information

Shared annotations can be administered by all members of your organisation, which means that they can be deleted by people other than you.

# API Keys

## Definition

An API Key is a string of characters that can be generated by a user after the authentication on Piano Analytics. An API Key aims at being used when querying Piano Analytics REST API instead of providing login details using basic authentication.

## Rely on an API Key

An API Key gives the same permissions as the user who created it. If the user loses rights on a site, then he won't be able to use his API key to get data on this site anymore. If the user gets rights on a new site, then he will be able to use his API key to get data on this site.

The API Key aims at being used with REST URLs retrieved from

. We invite you to use an API Key instead of providing login details using basic authentication, when querying the API with an external tool (Script or other).

If you are an SSO user, you must use an API Key to query Piano Analytics REST API.

## Rights to create an API Key

An API Key can only be created by an authenticated user who can manipulate data. This user must have at least one of the following roles:

* Administrator

* Delegates

* Advanced Analyst

* Analyst

* or Custom Role with the "Handle data" tool

* Data Supervisor

The API Key is created, enabled, disabled and deleted by each user independently.

## Display your existing API Keys

The API Keys are displayed under your Profile page \> API Keys tab, in a table providing the user with the following information:

1. Name of the API Key

2. Description of the API key

3. First characters of the API Key (Access Key)

4. Creation date

5. Date of last use

6. Status of the API Key: Active/Inactive

![2023-10-25_16h09_40.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_dcdfb55957774c9b8f55a9db6c3c9b90b47c936e5eb10574b281ea72842ea7f0/14659588213906?cb=250f39ef0c233f04e0d7dcfd3e05ca86)

## Create an API Key

1. Click on \<\< See profile \>\>

2. Open the*\<\< API KEYS \>\>*tab

3. Click on the button \<\< Create a new API Key \>\>

4. Enter a name and a description

5. Validate with the button *\<\< Create a new API key \>\>*

6. Copy the API Key by clicking on the Copy button and save it in a safe place

7. Confirm the action by checking the check box

![2023-10-25_15h13_12.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_f2b41f8c7b085234b4fb6049178232af331218ee780b737e73fd43f790ffbc95/14659588222482?cb=df1c65c85660d2cd7e5422f301cea16d)

Please note that for security reasons, the full API key(accesskey_secretkey) will only be displayed once during the process described above. A user can generate an API Key for each project/use of Piano Analytics REST API. To easily identify the API Key on the interface, we recommend that you give clear and accurate name and description to each API key.

## Use an API Key

Depending on the environment requesting the API, you can use various parameters:

### From an external environment like Postman

[Postman](https://www.getpostman.com/product/api-client)is a program that can help you trigger API calls outside your browser, specifying request headers and handle authentication.

In Postman or any other solution you use to call APIs you can rely on these 2 methods.

* **Request header**

  After adding your API call URL in the GET field, get in the Headers tab and add a new request header named *x-api-key* with the value matching this format *accesskey_secretkey* .

* **Basic authorization**

  You can get in the *Authorization* tab to pick *Basic Auth* and fill *UserName* field with your *Access Key* and *Password* with your *Secret Key* .

![16338385417490](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_84aed7f16fa12444e00d20cbd84aa6b1216be50164ef2a7ca995951a7847738f/16338385417490?cb=c17755c42b48e0df24793516cee09253)
![16338385403666](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b456e4ad7294ff41149d36f4d46797d426ba158f87c8fb0c26a9116f8493d367/16338385403666?cb=3c89c2973e4a0261744a4aaab94f474c)

#### From a browser

* **Standard direct URL**

  NoteThis method is the least secured, because your credentials could potentially be listened/stolen by malicious software. If you can rely on any other method please do the switch.

  Pick your configured API call URL from *Data Query* and trigger the call in a new tab.

  You will then see a login form from your browser requesting an *Access Key* and a *Secret Key* .

  Fill these fields in, press enter and get your results.

* **Prefixed URL**

  Pick your configured API call URL from *Data Query* and add your *Access Key* and *Secret Key* like this *accesskey:secretkey@* as a prefix to your call. This will add the *Access Key* and *Secret Key* as a request header when you trigger the call and get your results.

## Edit an API Key

From the table displaying all the API Keys, the user can edit each of them to:

1. Update the name or description

2. Make the API Key Inactive

As soon as an API Key is inactive, it can be deleted by the user.
Please note that deleting an API Key is a definitive action. A deleted API Key cannot be recovered.

## Secure your API Key

If you use API Keys, please make sure:

* To keep them in a safe place.

* If you have to share an API Key with someone, create a new one with a specific name and description and then disable or delete it as soon as you can.

* To delete the useless API Keys on a regular basis.

* To renew the API Keys used in your programs on a regular basis.

## Check your organisation's API Keys usage

### Quick view

Administrators and delegates can see in Access Rights' Users table, the last use of an API Key per account.

# Appsflyer

## PA Connect AppsFlyer Integration

### About AppsFlyer

AppsFlyer is a leading mobile marketing analytics and attribution platform. It enables businesses to accurately measure campaign performance across channels, attribute user acquisitions to specific marketing efforts, and optimize strategies through AI-powered insights while maintaining privacy compliance.

With strengths in processing data from billions of devices, offering robust fraud protection, and providing over 2,000 platform integrations, AppsFlyer serves as an essential tool in today's fragmented digital landscape, helping marketers transform complex data into clear, actionable decisions that drive growth and enhance customer engagement while navigating evolving privacy regulations.

### PA Connect AppsFlyer

Transform your mobile marketing strategy with **PA Connect AppsFlyer**. This powerful integration creates a unified data ecosystem that bridges mobile attribution with comprehensive user analytics, enabling you to make data-driven decisions across the entire customer journey. By connecting Piano Analytics' advanced segmentation capabilities with AppsFlyer's robust attribution platform, you eliminate data silos and unlock deeper insights into user acquisition and engagement.

Track complete user journeys from initial campaign interaction through app installation and beyond. Leverage AppsFlyer's precise attribution data to understand which marketing channels drive the highest-value users, while utilizing Piano Analytics' behavioral insights to optimize post-install engagement strategies. Access unified reporting that combines acquisition metrics with detailed user behavior analysis, empowering you to measure true campaign ROI and lifetime value attribution across all touchpoints.

### Connector Principles

**AppsFlyer Integration:**

AppsFlyer's attribution system initiates when users engage with marketing campaigns and completes at **first app launch** (attribution is based on launch timestamp rather than download time). The integration operates through:

• **SDK Implementation**: Mobile applications incorporate AppsFlyer's SDK, generating a unique AppsFlyer ID during initial app launch

A postback notification is subsequently transmitted to Piano Analytics to validate the `app.install` event, including comprehensive marketing source attribution data.

The AppsFlyer postback also includes the user_id (Piano Analytics identifier) containing the AppsFlyer customer user ID for seamless cross-platform tracking.

**Piano Analytics Integration:**

AppsFlyer events are automatically synchronized with Piano Analytics visits without requiring manual intervention.

The marketing source identified by AppsFlyer becomes the attributed traffic source for the corresponding Piano Analytics visit.

**Implementation Requirements:**

* Active Piano Analytics account

  * Configure the `app.install` event within your Piano Analytics Data Model

* Active AppsFlyer account with proper SDK integration

### Analytics \& Reporting in Piano Analytics

Access comprehensive reporting on marketing sources that drive application installations, combined with detailed analysis of subsequent user engagement patterns and behaviors.

# Are periods limited on the Reporting API?

Information in this article is not only restricted to the Reporting API, but also all the other Piano Analytics interfaces (Boards, Data Query, etc.)

Yes. By default, Piano Analytics enforces a **25-month rolling data retention period** for all organizations.

For example, if your organization's retention is 25 months, **data from January 2020 would no longer be available starting in February 2022**.

## How retention works (rolling window)

* The retention window is **rolling**, meaning it continuously moves forward with time.

* Once data is older than the configured retention period, it is **purged** and is **not retrievable** via the UI or API.

## Availability considerations

* The **oldest available data** for any organization is generally **the current date minus the retention period** (25 rolling months by default).

* If your organization migrated from a previous analytics solution or legacy interface, **historical availability can differ** due to differences in processing and platform deployment timelines. In that case, your earliest accessible date may be later than what the retention period alone would suggest.

## Keeping data longer than 25 months

If you need access to data beyond the default retention period, consider these options:

* **Historization (recommended):** Set up a process to **export and store datasets regularly** (weekly, monthly, or yearly) so you retain your own historical archive outside of Piano Analytics.

* **Retention extension:** Piano can offer **extended retention options** beyond 25 months. Contact your **Account Manager** to discuss feasibility and pricing.

# As an admin, why can't I delete a specific user account?

If the **Delete** button for a user account is greyed out/disabled, it is typically because the user is assigned as a **Delegate** in one or more **Delegations**. Delegate accounts cannot be deleted while they still have an active delegate role.

## How to enable deletion for a delegate user

To delete the user, you must first remove them from all delegations where they are a delegate:

1. In the **Access Management** , select the relevant **Delegation** as a perimeter.

2. Go to **Delegates management**.

3. Locate the user in the delegates list.

4. Click the **cross (×)** at the end of the user's line to remove them as a delegate.

5. Repeat for any other delegations where the user is listed as a delegate.

Once the user is no longer a delegate in any delegation, return to the user's profile---the **Delete** button should now be enabled, and you can delete the account.

## Troubleshooting

* **Delete is still disabled after removing the delegate:** Confirm the user was removed from **every** delegation (a user can be a delegate in multiple delegations). The delete option will remain disabled until all delegate assignments are removed.

# Attribution in Explorer

## The Tool's Objective

### Introduction

Attribution in online marketing is the process which credits conversions to the correct marketing activity (or combination of activities). With the rapid increase in the number of channels and platforms available, it has become essential for marketers to be able to correctly evaluate the contribution of each campaign and each online action to determine which combinations of the marketing mix increases conversions/revenue.

The Attribution analysis provides an in-depth analysis of your marketing activities' performance over a chosen analysis period according to you chosen attribution models.

Custom-built visualisations and innovative analysis customisation features have been added within this analysis' work environment to enable you to tailor the analysis to your needs.

### Location

The attribution analysis is located in P*iano Analytics*' side menu:
![image-20241108-103007.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_40d157ecc4dc8f315e7056893fdffa293f01074d3fb46fc3ba98d127ce89089c/image-20241108-103007.png?cb=3e521ccb1c784bfa884ded494ac29826)

### Definitions

**Touchpoint** --- interaction between a brand's marketing advertisement and a customer.

**Attribution lookback window**--- the length of time (in days) used to reconstruct the consumer journey prior to the conversion.

**Conversion sequence** --- the series of touchpoints preceding a conversion.

### Analysis data prerequisites

Ensure you are collecting the correct data in order to have an accurate and fully functioning attribution analysis. The attribution analysis enables you to attribute credit for sale revenue or any of the goal types you have set up. Make sure you are collecting this information via tags in order to have this data available in the analysis.

The attribution analysis can attribute campaign information. Make sure you are collecting this information properly to have an accurate distribution of your sales credits amongst your various marketing activities.

### User stitching

To attribute the correct credit to the various marketing activities, we recreate user journeys for each conversion that took place in the analysis window. To do this, we look back at all the interactions between the user and the brand (touchpoints) and stitch them together using two identifiers:

* **User ID** --- When available, we use the User ID first to stitch interactions across devices. This is how Piano achieves accurate cross-device tracking for logged-in or identified users.

* **Visitor ID** --- Cookie-based or mobile identifier. Used to retrieve interactions from before a user was identified (e.g., before login or registration).

The attribution lookback window parameter determines how far back the analysis will look to reconstruct user paths.
**Don't use a default User ID for unidentified users**

Setting a default value such as `"guest"` or `"anonymous"` for all unidentified users is a very bad tagging practice. Because the attribution algorithm relies on the User ID to stitch user paths, passing the same value for many users will cause them to be treated as a single user --- producing one large, artificial user path made up of millions of touchpoints.

The result will be **inaccurate attribution data** that doesn't reflect actual user behavior, and downgraded performance.

### How touchpoints are counted

A few rules govern how touchpoints are identified within a conversion sequence. Understanding them helps you interpret your attribution results correctly.

#### One source per visit

Each visit contributes one touchpoint to the sequence, identified by the **source of the visit** . If a visitor enters your site via Direct Traffic and later interacts with a Sponsored Link within the same visit, the touchpoint for that visit remains **Direct Traffic** --- the Sponsored Link will not appear as a separate touchpoint.

This reflects how visit sourcing works in Piano Analytics: the source is attributed at the start of the visit and doesn't change mid-session.

#### Visits without a source

Some visits may not have an identifiable source. Rather than removing these from the sequence (which would inflate the credit given to other touchpoints), they appear as `-` in the touchpoint sequence. This preserves the structure of the user journey while signaling that no source could be attributed.

#### Organic and marketing sources both inform the calculation

When attributing by **campaign**, only campaign touchpoints appear in the displayed results --- but the model still considers all sources (organic and marketing) during the calculation itself.

This avoids overweighting campaigns. For example, take a path of `Direct Traffic → Sponsored Link → Direct Traffic`. If organic sources were excluded before the calculation, Sponsored Link would receive 100% of the credit --- overlooking the role of the two Direct Traffic touchpoints in the actual journey. By keeping all sources in the calculation, the model distributes credit more realistically.

## Attribution models

**First-touch**--- In a first-click model, the first touchpoint obtains 100% of the credit for a conversion.

**Last-touch**--- In a last-click model, the last touchpoint obtains 100% of the credit for a conversion.

**Last non-direct touch** --- In a last non-direct touch model, each conversion is attributed to the last non-direct traffic interaction preceding a conversion. If the consumer journey consists solely of direct traffic interactions, the conversion is attributed to direct traffic.

**Linear** --- In a linear (or uniform) model, the credit is shared evenly between the various touchpoints.

**U-shaped** --- In a U-shaped model, the credit is shared between all touchpoints in the following way:

* 40% for the first touchpoint

* 40% for the last touchpoint

* 20% shared amongst all other touchpoints

**Time Decay** --- In a time decay model, the credit is shared amongst all the touchpoints with weights increasing linearly the closer in time a touchpoint is to the sale.

**Shapley Value** --- The Shapley value model attributes a conversion according to weightings defined by our Shapley value algorithmic model based on each interaction's contribution. The model evaluates the importance of each source by analyzing how often conversions occur **without** that source: if very few paths convert without a given source, that source is considered highly important and receives more credit. The Shapley Value model is well suited to understanding which touchpoints are genuinely driving conversions, beyond their position in the journey.

## Work Environnement

### Analysis scope

![image-20241108-102944.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_998522085ad0a0d80519543083d505f62c750ec8dc60bdca638375d790829d4a/image-20241108-102944.png?cb=3e521ccb1c784bfa884ded494ac29826)

1. **Site Scope** --- For each attribution analysis, you will need to specify the site or group of sites you wish to analyse. This site selector benefits from useful features such as an integrated search engine to facilitate access when searching for your analysis perimeter.

2. **Calendar** --- Within the calendar dropdown, you will be able to select the period you wish to analyse. The attribution analysis will look at all sales or primary and secondary conversions that took place within this period and attribute their value to the various marketing activities.

### Attribution parameters

![image-20241108-102930.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_74d06d98c4bfd05f6e3cd6b8c15e4bc7623be5616f63dfe1509241f640d91ca4/image-20241108-102930.png?cb=6b358b40e288834395fe3df93aef3417)

1. **Attribution lookback window**--- with this selector you can choose how many days before a conversion the analysis will look back to reconstruct the consumer journey.

2. **Touchpoint type**--- with this selector you can select the level of granularity of your analysis. You can choose to attribute overall traffic sources, or attribute all the way down to marketing campaign level.

3. **Conversion type** --- Choose whether to attribute **revenue** or **goal-based conversions**:

   * **Monetary** --- Attributes the revenue value of each sale to the contributing touchpoints.

   * **Goal-based** --- Attributes the number of conversions (one per completed goal). Choose a primary, secondary, or custom goal.

   * You will find additional information on how to tag a goal type [here](https://support.piano.io/hc/en-us/articles/4465982438546-Declare-a-goal-with-Data-Management#Portingoverthepagegoaldeclaration).

4. **Attribution models** --- With this selector, you can choose one or more attribution models to credit conversions to your different marketing activities.

5. **Run button**--- The run button updates the attribution results based on the parameters you selected above.

For data quality reasons, **offsite conversion events** (events without a visit ID) are ++not++ included in the attribution analysis.

## Available analyses

### **Sequences**

The sequences analysis is the first tab in Attribution. Once configured with your attribution parameters, the sequences tab contains top-line KPIs as well as a line graph summarising your performance over the analysis period. The sequences table highlights the top 20 most frequently used paths over the attribution lookback window for the conversions that took place over the analysis period.
![image-20241108-102916.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_04f3937e846438b3dd034c205dd9d4cb08eb27404838a9ffbb3fa7c56fb76180/image-20241108-102916.png?cb=93d0317647b2ffaa5189d85daf6f664e)

### **Models**

The models tab highlights the credit attributed to your traffic sources or campaigns based on the attribution models you chose in the analysis configuration.
![image-20241108-102902.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_0a9cac34a8baead0ca2a333b3120cdb5b95571dd6c0b36c9bdd5a4548ef32c07/image-20241108-102902.png?cb=cc7ba7ac9ce5d0c35f86b8de0dd18b5e)

### **Conversions**

The conversions tab organises conversions by number of touchpoints types present in each sequence.

For example:

* A conversion with the following sequence: "direct traffic \> search engines" will be classified in the column "2"

* A conversion with the following sequence: "direct traffic \> direct traffic"\>"Search Engines" will be classified in the column "3"

![image-20241108-102845.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_da9ecd2d8d14396152b0eec88725b0c7d02c5c069aaefd8821d488b8080b7d49/image-20241108-102845.png?cb=83fb90ebe3885ac42916ba5241190b0a)

### **Duration**

The duration tab organises your conversions by the number of days that went by between the first touchpoint and the conversion.

For example:

* A conversion where one day went by between the first interaction and the conversion will be sorted in the column "1".

* A conversion where a user first visited the site on the 1st of December and made a purchase on 3rd of December will be sorted in the column "2".

# AV property calculation between two events

Data Flow strives to provide you with the highest quality information as quickly as possible on each event collected. However, some information (such as the time spent between two events for example) can only be calculated once the second event has been received. For technical reasons, the information concerning the difference between two events can only be calculated and attributed back to the second event.

This is problematic for the following reason, let us take two events:

1. av.start at 12:00:00

2. av.pause at 12:01:00

The av_duration property will be equal to 00:01:00 and when shared in real time by Data Flow would be attributed to the second event. In reality, the event that lasted one minute was the first, av.start event.

For this reason, this technical nuance in the data can lead to misunderstandings and consequently to incorrect calculations. As we always aim to provide you with the highest quality information, we have chosen not to include the following metrics from Data Flow while providing you with the precise calculation rules to recreate them on your end once the data is received:

* av_duration

* av_cursor_difference

* av_playback_duration

* av_buffer_duration

* av_rebuffer_duration

Here are the precise rules to calculate these properties between events if you wish to recreate them on your end:

* **av_duration :** difference between event_time ++AND++ event_time

* **av_cursor_difference :** difference between av_position ++AND++ av_position

* **av_playback_duration :** difference between event_time ++AND++ event_time ++WHEN++ :

  event_name = ('av.heartbeat','av.start','av.resume') ++OR++

  (event_name = ('av.forward','av.backward') ++AND++ (event_name = ('av.heartbeat','av.pause','av.buffer.start','av.rebuffer.start'))) ++OR++

  (event_name = ('rm.refresh','rm.play','rm.info'))

* **av_buffer_duration :** difference between event_time ++AND++ event_time ++WHEN++ event_name = ('av.buffer.heartbeat','av.buffer.start')

* **av_rebuffer_duration :** difference between current event_time ++AND++ event_time ++WHEN++event_name = ('av.rebuffer.heartbeat','av.rebuffer.start')

**Caution**: these calculations must be done by segmenting on visit_id, av_session_id, av_content_id.

# Axeptio

## About Axeptio

Axeptio is a French consent management platform, GDPR and ePrivacy compliant. The tool relies on simple integration with no technical prerequisites, as well as a pleasant user experience that respects users. Axeptio strives to establish a bond of trust between the platform and its users so that consent is given in full awareness. The solution is installed on over 33,000 sites and applications, and reaches nearly 33 million users every day.

To learn more, visit: <https://www.axept.io/>

### PA Connect Axeptio

The Axeptio connector allows you to manage the visitor consent through the audience measurement cookies thanks to our "Consent Management" tagging methods, but also to automatically tag your visitors' interactions with your consent management platform. This provides you with numerous indicators for analyzing consent, such as:

* Number of times the CMP is displayed

* Response rate

* Consent rate

* etc

#### Important

Marking interactions on your CMP is based on the declaration of two custom events (see below). Collecting these events is optional (the option must be checked via the Axeptio CMP). If you accept and declare these events in your Piano Analytics Data Model, they will be invoiced like standard events.

### Connector principles

This document aims at guiding you through the activation of the Hybrid measure using ***PA Connect*** ***Axeptio***. Hybrid measure combines the best of both worlds by allowing you to combine CNIL exemption with consent (opt-in).
![CMP (1).png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_5dc33fe4f8da2541bd434d19645dcc3976f5bfdec33098785c64cf271dd51131/19074993146770?cb=ca20d73bf0915d8a14614fc3956ee64f)

#### Prerequisites

* Your site must be tagged with the Piano Analytics SDK

* You must have access to Axeptio and Piano Analytics

The Axeptio connector calls on events and properties that are not included in the default Piano Analytics data model. It is then necessary to configure these elements so that they are taken into account.

##### Privacy

If you benefit from the ePrivacy exemption, it is necessary to authorize the collection of these elements prior to the collection of consent: you must include them in the list of authorized elements for your default consent mode.

More information here : <https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/piano-analytics/data-collection/how-to-send-events/consent>

## Installation guide

### Setting up the integration on Axeptio

Once in your project, click on the parameters, then Analytics Connectors:
![mceclip0.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_4c79fa7a8aa37e76352e40f1737239c543df345b68ae8c2a14bd06e6c0a2ae07/18973774197138?cb=239fe4e66ba332d8805fe1ccefa6bd67)

In the pop-up window that opens, you can choose to activate the two options managed by this connector:

1. **Check to activate the service**. The consent.display and consent.answer events will be sent (see "Customizing the Piano Analytics data model" below).

2. **Check the privacy mode to manage the Consent of your visitors**. The consent mode will be updated if the visitor validates the Piano Analytics vendor in the Axeptio widget.

![mceclip1.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_da787e07b3e0a0bd14c25eb59a144df764b537af3c8edab0727e3d086acbbe34/18973774223506?cb=ecf3bfda272ac4c5e0bd897cdfcc6c7b)

Publish your widget with Piano Analytics enabled.

Once these steps have been completed, Piano Analytics will start collecting data from your visitors' interactions with the Axeptio consent form.

### Customizing the Piano Analytics data model

The PA Connect Axeptio requires the declaration of two events in the Piano Analytics data model:

* **consent.display** (On site) - Event corresponding to the display of the consent management platform (CMP)

* **consent.answer** (On site) - Event corresponding to an explicit response from the user (click on a CMP button, CMP exit click, save preferences, etc.)

And two properties attached to the **consent.answer** event:

* **privacy_consent_value** (string) - Property indicating the value of the consent expressed: 'full', 'partial' or 'refusal'.

* **privacy_consent_type** (boolean) - Property indicating the type (binary) of consent expressed:*true* in the case of total or partial consent, or *false* in the case of refusal

Events can be declared from the interface [Data Management \> Data Model \> Events](https://management.atinternet-solutions.com/#/data-model/events/list). More information [here](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/en/analytics/v1/events.md).

Properties can be declared from the interface [Data Management \> Data Model \> Properties](https://management.atinternet-solutions.com/#/data-model/properties/list). More information [here](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/en/analytics/v1/properties.md).

### Configuring some performance indicators

To analyze the events collected by the connector, it can be useful to set up customized segments, metrics and reports. Here are a few examples:

* Number of times the CMP is displayed

* :

To get this indicator, start by creating a segment to include only the **consent.display** events:
![12336184391826](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_0e196c94be1104a2c1f414f7e64444ce80e22158ef1ef911a9a50f79c2f6500b/12336184391826?cb=175b0fc7326032073b59d05a08d9e8ff)

Next, create a custom metric to display the total number of events, to which we apply the previously created segment in integer format:
![12336246482450](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_3eeb192408b8f3d84a8828fbcc1b94d746bb8b06a03ba27e382d4a60ab9f138e/12336246482450?cb=9982a68372ac04860bb615150a544f27)

* Response rate:

The response rate is the ratio between the number of times the consent platform is displayed and the number of responses obtained.

To get this indicator, start by creating a segment to include only **consent.answer** events, corresponding to the number of responses obtained:
![12336218504338](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_2845fb753a17772945d9e02c1c401e029976ae5ab93ee06ca32f50bc28b89cb2/12336218504338?cb=f8ddf447cb4034d06f02058b2ada6e6c)

Next, create a custom metric to calculate the ratio between the number of responses and the number of displays, using the segments created previously:
![12336279994130](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_28d7fba2e83ffad1456956b0f4c6a68d9f153fb4dc5d445fc4a4f7762a2e5b5e/12336279994130?cb=6814ee090ae2c8dc4b0e8df589288a95)

* Consent rate

The consent rate is the ratio between the number of consents obtained and the number of modal displays.

To get this indicator, start by creating a segment to include only**consent.answer** events with the **privacy_consent_type=true** property, corresponding to obtained consent:
![12336294358034](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_1621edae253ba03133f102f0d53f7454dd4cf47e411a4fc23b3a25deb8a7120e/12336294358034?cb=1939d2044fa05e048207beab39cac18f)

Next, create a custom metric to calculate the ratio between the number of consents and the number of displays:
![12336298072082](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b8c307606869f28c2d26bd0d9df3e3f9a59b6f136cf15320a181db5d8ce11f8a/12336298072082?cb=59ecc99072be492e62688dcb32c13847)

By applying this methodology, it is possible to obtain numerous indicators enabling in-depth analyses of user consent:

* Number of responses

* Number of consents

* Number of non-consents

* Rate of consent among respondents

* Non-response rate

* Rate of non-consent

* Number of visits with consent

* Number of consenting visitors

* Rate of visits with consent

* Rate of consenting visitors

* Etc

Here is an overview of the results:
![12337079306898](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_6f1c4b8971ec235d533c530d34cc58e158d278bef74541e17beb1438877693f7/12337079306898?cb=7183de192ccc8bbfd8519b29a5439bdf)

# AXON Analyst - Anomaly detection & prediction

## Introduction

The Anomaly Detection and Prediction features are *Piano Analytics* ' two time series functionalities powered by data science. The Anomaly detection \& Prediction functionalities are located under the graph type selection button on board tiles. These features are available in all time series graphs within *Workspaces*.
![image-20250124-101110.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_dee843353e04f06424e59379cd26c2c4354e5d6d9461216fc61cde13c02a2d84/image-20250124-101110.png?cb=bdfeee92dc4e3a56f96e68458f90cf46)

### Anomaly detection

Anomalies are detected when our statistical model identifies suspicious variations for a given metric within the context of the analysis.

**Example**: A large decrease in visits on a Saturday may seem suspicious within the context of a week, however prove to be a perfectly ordinary variation as the scale of a year (decreases in traffic can be observed each weekend).

Anomalies are illustrated on the graph with round symbols overlaid on the time series.

Positive anomalies will be shown in green:
![Pos_Anom.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_be577b6609a5f48ba1a00a4e19d8b2c27b90702633704aa5bb6bb771be3e3e90/4465668264082?cb=dc0e239451a793540b18e8f06133eec1)

Negative anomalies will show up in red:
![Neg_Anom.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_0b3bc4219ac49225171bea86845d203869087333729268473e9113cd93214333/4465647673874?cb=f3a93096c1796c91c9e8371f04c39933)

For anomaly detection to be available, the first element analyzed in your data must have enough historical data. For example, if you're analyzing anomalies by traffic source, Direct Access typically has enough history for the model to work. On the other hand, if you're analyzing a recently created campaign with no accumulated history, anomaly detection won't be available --- an error message will explain why.

### Prediction

The prediction functionality will provide you with the expected future values of a given metric based on your historical data:

* In **hourly**granularity, we forecast the following 24 hours after the last hour of the analysis. When analyzing the current day in real time, the forecast runs from the current hour through to the end of the day.

* In **daily**granularity, we forecast the following 30 days after the last day of the analysis.

* In **weekly**granularity, we forecast the following 12 weeks after the last week of the analysis.

* In **monthly**granularity, we forecast the following 12 months after the last month of the analysis.

## Availability

### Analyses

The Anomaly detection \& Prediction functionalities can be selected as graph types on all *Workspaces*tiles.

### Graph granularities

Anomaly Detection \& Prediction functionalities are available on all graph granularities: hour, day, week, month. When analyzing the current day, the actual line will be overlaid with the day's forecast, giving you hourly targets for the day.

### Data requirements

A minimum of 2 weeks of historical data (with less than 30% of the historical data being zeros) is necessary to identify anomalies and to provide forecasts on hourly and daily granularities. A minimum of 2 years worth of historical data is necessary (with less than 30% of the historical data being zeros) for weekly and monthly anomaly detections \& predictions. If your site is new, you will have to wait until enough historical data is collected for our model to satisfy goodness-of-fit assumptions. Consequently, an explicit error message is shown until you have enough data. For optimal accuracy in our model, we recommend at least 8 weeks and 3 years of data, respectively.

### Metrics

The Anomaly detection \& Prediction features are available for all metrics (absolute values and ratios).

## Basic concepts

When in the "AXON Analyst" mode, you are able to customize which information is displayed on the graphs with the "options" drop down list.
![image-20250124-101454.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_74cdf15b9f4c33239ee8c95cb5987cd7cef76eebebbee20c12ab0b319dcce4a6/image-20250124-101454.png?cb=b0b344fa448edd4c316a48d5a6482021)

### Anomaly

When the anomaly option is selected, a "tolerance" area is shown on the graph. We expect the line to remain within the boundaries of this area. Any data point of the line outside this zone will be flagged as an anomaly.
![Screenshot_3_-_Anomalies.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_29f63a26465ecbbcc8fa5c1c002354aaf98f343768a3c3920101c0a128e06a31/4465647745042?cb=8f0a953ad566ada065c076c196bc6937)

### Trend

The trend illustrates macro fluctuations in your data over time. The trend is illustrated using a dashed line.

The Baseline illustrates how the metric would have evolved without the intervention of external factors. The baseline is illustrated using a dotted line.
![Screenshot_5_-_Baseline.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b9c0d6db431952cbab32fae234efeebaab97ba64d2cbddf0439665972c9f245d/4465660005778?cb=e8fb7ad696e156be0943d94155224900)

### Forecast

The forecast is a prediction based on your historical data. The forecasted values are shown on the graph using a green dotted line. The forecast has its own level of accuracy, which we illustrate using the light green area around the predicted line.
![Screenshot_6_-_Forecast.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_b2b83cd841094536b79130d7929b7a9bacc7b9233e89888b125b88c3b93d7e4c/4465668529042?cb=c5d549ea666b60d4a49d848522f1cb31)

### Algorithm sensitivity

The detection sensitivity will affect the algorithm's tolerance area. Three levels of sensitivity are available: low, medium, high. With a low level of sensitivity, the algorithm will be more tolerant, resulting in a larger tolerance area, and fewer alerts. On the contrary, a high level of sensitivity will result in a small tolerance area around the line, and thus more alerts will be identified. The detection sensitivity can be changed on the graph options.

## Technical Information and FAQ

### Technical Information

The Anomaly Detection \& Prediction features are in-house, custom-built data science models founded on a hybridization of time series decomposition models and clustering methods. The basic models have been tweaked, improved using millions of data points, and adapted to web analytics data.

### FAQ

**Does the model compensate for known events such as Christmas or Black Friday?**

The Anomaly Detection \& Prediction models do not adapt for known recurrent events such as Christmas or Black Friday. Therefore, fluctuations in your data taking place on those dates will be treated similarly to fluctuations on any other day.

**The trend doesn't seem to fit my data properly, is this normal?**

The trend reflects macro fluctuations in your data. It is possible your analysis timeframe is too small to show long term fluctuations in your dataset. Due to this phenomenon, the trend can appear to be distant from the rest of your data. By increasing your analysis timeframe you will see the trend illustrates macro fluctuations in your data.

# Batch

## About Batch

**Batch** is a marketing platform for managing push notification and inApp message campaigns. Thousands of applications use Batch to manage the sending of push notifications, to automatically segment audiences (new users, engaged users, etc.) and to do so predictively.

Learn more on [https://batch.com/.](https://batch.com/)

### *PA Connect* Batch

Activate your data with the **PA Connect Batch**. This integration enables you to better communicate with your customers, by automating the sending of notifications based on reliable, comprehensive data. The partnership between Piano Analytics and Batch helps you get the most out of both tools, avoiding any siloing of your data.

Track the opening of push / in-app Batch notifications from Piano Analytics. Engage personalized audiences with segmented Piano Analytics data. Monitor the performance of your push notification campaigns in easy-to-use dashboards.

## Connector principles (PA SDK version)

The first configuration concerns the implementation of the Dispatcher SDK Batch, which enables events to be sent to Piano Analytics. It will then be necessary to set up push notifications/inApp messages via the Batch interfaces. These push notifications can be tagged with campaigns, so that they can be tracked directly in Piano Analytics.

You can then play around with the Piano Analytics interfaces to build your datasets, then decide to import your audience segments directly into Batch from their dedicated interface.

Push notification = campaign as source

In App = event onsite Ad
![image-20241106-132616.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_e5f15e8c794b82891d669cc7b59a08d245ac4887e7dede288b4e2ee9d24d3b60/image-20241106-132616.png?cb=d5a0c052ef03ccb33fe6a4c74ed79a8b)

**Prerequisites :**

* Have a Piano Analytics account

* Have a Batch account

* Implement Batch Dispatcher to benefit from the integration. [Android](https://doc.batch.com/android/advanced/event-dispatchers) / [iOS](https://doc.batch.com/ios/advanced/event-dispatchers).

## Tracking Batch data

Piano Analytics only allows you to associate a single campaign with each visit on your application (as a traffic source). However, Batch allows you to trigger several campaigns per visit.

To solve this problem, Batch data is sent to two Piano Analytics modules: the On-Site Advertising module and the Marketing Sources module.

### On Site Ad Module:

The Batch Piano-dispatcher can send two types of events to Piano Analytics:

* **Onsitead native events** (standard Batch Piano-dispatcher configuration):

  - publisher.impression

  - publisher.click

* **Custom events** (you need to add the associated [Batch Piano-dispatcher configuration](https://doc.batch.com/android/event-dispatchers/#piano-analytics), but also to [declare the custom events](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/en/analytics/v1/events.md) on your PA Data Model):

  - batch_notification_open : triggered when a push notification is displayed

  - batch_in_app_show : triggered when a push notification is clicked

  - batch_in_app_close : triggered when an in-app message is explicitly closed by the user (using the close button or a CTA)

  - batch_in_app_auto_close : triggered when an in-app message is closed by the auto-close timer.

  - batch_in_app_click : triggered when an in-app Click-To-Action is clicked or when the in-app is touched (unless the CTA is a close, in which case a "close" event is triggered).

The data retrieved (Piano Analytics properties) in each of the above events are as follows:

* onsitead_type: type of Onsite campaign measured

* onsitead_advertiser: advertiser associated with Onsite ad campaigns

* onsitead_campaign: details of Onsite advertising campaigns

* onsitead_format: format associated with Onsite advertising campaigns

### Marketing Sources Module :

The Batch Dispatcher allows you to take into account the "at_" and "utm" marketing campaign tagging that you set up via your push notifications and In-App messages (see following section of this documentation). This enables you to define a source for each visit to your application.

Only the first campaign detected during a visit is available in Piano Analytics (retrieved via the visit's first event). However, it is possible to force the marketing source of a visit even if we have already retrieved another one from past events, by setting the ["src_force"](https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/piano-analytics/data-collection/how-to-send-events/marketing-campaigns#force-visit-marketing-source) Boolean parameter to "true".

Parameters available and mandatory when setting up a marketing campaign:

* at_medium : global family for campaign

* at_campaign : name of the campaign that generated a visit on your site

Or:

* utm_medium

* utm_campaign

## Setting up your communication channels on Batch

### Push campaigns tracking

The dispatcher collects the "at_" or "utm_" parameters from the deeplink URL and your campaign's custom payload. You can use either one or the other. If both are filled, the "at_" / "utm_" parameters from the custom payload will take precedence over the deeplink parameters.
![image-20241106-132637.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_ece68ca560a06a939b712d8da2ca653eed3bed4dee13f6668dda897fa88fc1c8/image-20241106-132637.png?cb=2997ce8ee0a36356a359f25849268fba)

### In-App messages campaigns tracking

The dispatcher collects the "at_"/"utm" parameters from the deeplink URL and the Tracking ID field of your campaign.
![https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/718177387/89bd3598814f8bdaae2ba0d1/609ccb26-2810-4e18-a894-d82767d23ac2](https://downloads.intercomcdn.com/i/o/718177387/89bd3598814f8bdaae2ba0d1/609ccb26-2810-4e18-a894-d82767d23ac2)

## Displaying results in Piano Analytics

Now that mobile push notification and in-App tracking is enabled, you can track the results of your campaigns in Piano Analytics as shown in the following capture:
![image-20241106-132701.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_aa6a174ca84aa74a862d483c75cbce713a48ccec9673ee54e87d74030f47d345/image-20241106-132701.png?cb=611075172586306588e5fa2458ae49ac)

## Sending PA segments to Batch

You can then create segments in Data Query and send them to Batch. They will be available in Batch as custom audiences. Segments can be sent in CSV format to an FTP server (to be defined with Batch).
![image-20241106-132712.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_811e465efe570f27a32e3e69d9131508f7dc9705164cafe061f8014c4a509aba/image-20241106-132712.png?cb=9a2ded4e94eafceb75925b024f57558c)

# Bucketing properties

Bucketing lets you group the values of a property into your **own custom categories**, directly in Data Query. Instead of analyzing dozens or hundreds of raw values, you define a handful of meaningful groups (like "Young / Adult / Senior" or "Active / Inactive"), and Data Query does the sorting for you.

A bucket is a new, derived property built from a single existing property. **You decide the rules** : *if a value meets a condition, then it belongs in this group.* The result is a cleaner, more readable report that reflects the categories your team actually cares about.

Because a bucket is applied when your report runs, **it works on the fly and is fully retroactive**. It applies across any period you analyze, including data collected long before you created the bucket, so you can reorganize your historical values instantly. Unlike a data management rule, there's nothing to configure ahead of time and no need to wait for new data to come in.

## When to use bucketing

Reach for bucketing whenever a property has more detail than you need for a given analysis. A few common cases:

* **Turning a numeric property into bands** (age into age groups, order value into price tiers).

* **Grouping many text values into fewer categories** (dozens of page paths into a few site sections).

* **Flagging records against a threshold** (last visit before a cut-off date into "Active" vs. "Inactive").

## How bucketing works

A bucketing property is built from a few simple pieces:

* **A property.** You bucket the values of one existing property at a time.

* **An output type.** You choose what kind of value your new property produces: String, Number, or Boolean.

* **One or more buckets.** Each bucket has one or more conditions and an output value. When a record matches a bucket's conditions, it receives that bucket's output value.

* **An optional default bucket.** This is the "everything else" case. It has no conditions and applies to any record that did not match another bucket.

## Creating a bucket

In your report table, click the property you want to group to reveal its actions, then select **Create a bucketing** . (If the property is already a bucket, this option reads **Edit bucketing** and reopens the existing setup.)
![Animation16-20260803-142409.gif](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_4b9a835f0987e3d0c7add6ffd97089bc89d8965361bdaaeef16f320dd4306291/Animation16-20260803-142409.gif?cb=6023008849346fec24d210184a4ae031)

### General settings

* **Property**: The property you're grouping, shown here for reference. Each bucket is based on a single source property.

* **Output type**: The type of value your bucket produces, either String, Number, or Boolean (true/false). Set this before defining conditions, since every output value must match it. Mismatches are highlighted so you can fix them before applying.

![image-20260803-142531.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_44c0ce3813a3737da6c32f3bb20ccdb9ad19d4d8207f44fc36aeb45428df0795/image-20260803-142531.png?cb=071b422c1f205b8730ec435095f23606)

### Conditions

Each condition has two parts: an **if** that decides which records match, and a **then** that sets the value those records receive.

* **if** : Choose an operator and select one or more values to match on the source property (up to 2,000 values per condition). The operators available depend on the property's type (listed under Supported operators below). To require more than one rule in the same condition, click **Add rule**. Rules are combined with AND, so a record must satisfy all of them to match.

* **then**: Set the value matching records receive, in one of two ways:

  * **set with value** : Assigns a fixed constant to the bucket, such as `Young` or `High value`. This is the most common choice.

  * **set with property value**: Uses the value of another property instead of a constant. Only properties whose type matches your output type are available.

Click **Add condition** to create another group, or **Add default** to add a catch-all that applies when no other condition matches. Use the up/down controls on a condition to change the order in which conditions are evaluated.
![image-20260803-142647.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_11ae1a7cc331f330a071c5a1636471aa265f9876a7e5cfb5e5dd9249e3e19fa9/image-20260803-142647.png?cb=fa9b28cf992495a6ad259952a393d864)
* A bucket needs at least two conditions, or one condition + a default, and can include up to 15 conditions + one optional default.

* Each condition other than the default must contain at least one rule.

* The default is always last and has no *if* rules; it simply catches everything not matched above.

Click **Apply**. The button activates once your setup is valid, and your new bucket replaces the original property column.

### Supported operators

The operators available depend on the type of the source property you're grouping:

| **Source property type** | **Available operators** |
|------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------|
| Numeric (integer or decimal) | `=`, `!=`, `<`, `>`, `<=`, `>=`, is (not) empty |
| String                       | `=`, `!=`, is (not) empty                       |
| Boolean (true/false)         | `=`, `!=`, is (not) empty                       |
| Date                         | `=`, `!=`, `<`, `>`, `<=`, `>=`, is (not) empty |
| String array                 | `=`, `!=`, is (not) empty                       |

* `=` and `!=` accept multiple values, so they work like "is any of" and "is none of."

* **is empty** matches records where the property has no value.

## Using a bucketing property

Once applied, a bucket appears as a column in your report and behaves like any other property: you can filter on it just as you would any other property. However, functions such as counts, sums, or averages can't be applied to a bucket. If several conditions produce the same output value, those results are grouped into a single row in your report.

To adjust a bucket later, click its column to reveal its actions and select **Edit Bucketing**. From there you can change its conditions, output values, or output type.

A bucket is **saved**as part of the report it belongs to. Once you save the report, your bucket is reused every time you open it, and any report that contains a bucket can be added to a board just like any other report.
![image-20260803-142816.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_026c16ec804298d59f8cc9ce4a383c90e8bb8df9cd6228921e1fa930995d23de/image-20260803-142816.png?cb=3f988e08dd5704c937ef5a8f09b38326)

## Examples

### Age banding (Numeric to String)

Imagine you have a numeric `user age` property, with a different value for almost every visitor. On its own, that level of detail is hard to read in a report: a breakdown by age would produce dozens of rows. Bucketing lets you collapse those raw ages into three familiar life stages, so you can compare behavior across meaningful groups instead of individual ages.

You'd set the source property to `user age` and the output type to String, then define one condition per band:

* If age `<` 25, then `Young`

* If age `>=` 25 and age `<` 65, then `Adult`

* If age `>=` 65, then `Senior`

Once applied, the age column is replaced by a `Young / Adult / Senior` column. Every visitor is sorted into exactly one band, and you can filter or break down your report by these groups just as you would any other property.

### Active vs. inactive users (Date to String)

Here the goal is a simple engagement flag rather than a full set of bands. Starting from a `last login date` property, you want to separate users who haven't logged in since the start of the year from everyone else. A single condition handles the "inactive" case, and a default catches the rest, so you don't have to describe every possible recent date.

Set the source property to `last login date` and the output type to String, then:

* If last login date `<=` 2026-01-01, then `Inactive`

* Default, then `Active`

This produces a clean two-value column you can use to segment or compare active and inactive audiences. If some users have never logged in at all, their `last login date` is empty and won't match the "inactive" condition. To capture them explicitly, add a condition using the **is empty** operator on `last login date` and assign it to whichever group fits your analysis, for example `Inactive`.

# Can a page be tagged via an HTML iframe?

Yes. An iframe can contain Piano Analytics tags, as well as any JavaScript you need to measure the iframe's own content (for example, clicks and other interactions).

## Where to implement tagging

Tagging should be implemented on the **child page** (the page loaded *inside* the iframe), not on the parent page. All code included in the iframe content is executed in the iframe's context and can send events normally.

When an iframe is loaded on a partner page, all tagging contained within the iframe will still execute, because it runs as part of the iframe's document.

## Recommended approach: use the latest Piano Analytics library (SDK)

We recommend using the latest version of the Piano Analytics JavaScript library to tag an iframe.

1. Load the library on the iframe page:

       <script type="text/javascript" src="https://tag.aticdn.net/piano-analytics.js"></script>

2. Configure the SDK (example):

       pa.setConfigurations({ site: 123456, collectDomain: "https://your-collect-domain.com" });

3. Send events as usual (example):

       pa.sendEvent('page.display', { page: 'Page_Name' });

All methods available in the Piano Analytics SDK can be used in an iframe. The iframe can be treated like a normal page loaded within a parent document.

## Namespaces and avoiding conflicts (important)

Our SDKs use global variables, which can create conflicts if analytics code is present both on: - the parent page where the iframe is embedded, and - the iframe content itself

To avoid conflicts, use **unique namespaces** so that global objects and configuration do not collide between the parent page and the iframe.

## Cross-domain considerations (visitor identification)

If the parent page and the iframe are on **different domains** , visitor identification may not automatically align between the two contexts. In that case, you may need to **synchronize the client ID** between the parent page and the iframe to preserve consistent visitor tracking across both environments.

# Can an HTTPS site be the referrer for an HTTP site?

When site A uses the HTTPS protocol and site B uses HTTP, the referrer is not passed along when going from site A to site B. As a result, the source of the visit to site B will be **Direct access**.

This behavior is enforced by browsers for security/privacy reasons: when navigating from a secure page (HTTPS) to a non-secure page (HTTP), referrer information is typically suppressed to avoid leaking potentially sensitive URL details to an insecure destination.

## How to preserve referrer and source attribution

If you need to identify your site's referrers despite the difference in protocol, use one of the following approaches:

* **Move the destination site to HTTPS (recommended).** Referrer information is retained when navigating from **HTTPS → HTTPS**, so standard traffic source attribution will work as expected.

* **Use marketing campaign tracking.** Add campaign parameters to links so visits can be attributed even when the browser does not send a referrer header (for example, when going from HTTPS to HTTP).

Let's take a page with the URL http://www.site.com/MyPageName/ , where the page label should be "MyPageName".
Warning: this is a general example and may not be applicable in all situations.

We recommend you go into Data Management \> Properties, then in the property "Page".

You will be able to set the processing rule as in the example below:
![image-20250218-112234.png](https://analytics-docs.piano.io/__attachments/a_6f90b2540ea863b6ed8705a0711ad8887311a03dedb585cbf532b8bb80281d6a/image-20250218-112234.png?cb=9b3a238e22deb152a92a439b58f6b285)

This processing rule allows you to set the 4th element of the URL to the property thanks to the "/" separator. The example above is taken into account only if the event is equal to "page.display".

The result will be "MyPageName".

# Can I give administration rights to a user?

It is possible to give administration rights to any user.

## Grant full administrative rights (entire organization)

1. In Piano Analytics, go to **Access rights**.

2. In the **Admin management** section, assign the user **administration** rights.

By default, users added in **Admin management** will be able to administrate **all access rights across the entire organization**.

## Grant administrative rights for a limited scope (specific sites)

To grant administrative rights only on a limited group of sites, it is necessary to create a **delegation**.

# Can I load your JavaScript library asynchronously?

The Piano Analytics SDK recommended loading method is asynchronous: [Javascript \| Piano Analytics Developers Documentation](https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/piano-analytics/data-collection/sdks/javascript#standard-implementation--6160)

We also provide specific methods detailed in our [developer documentation](https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/piano-analytics/data-collection/sdks/javascript#asynchronous-tagging) that allows queuing commands, which will be executed as soon as the SDK is loaded.

You can also, if needed, change the variable name in charge of queuing commands to avoid conflict with third-party tools.

# Can I obtain the number of lines of my API query?

The [getRowCount](https://developers.atinternet-solutions.com/data-api-en/reporting-api-v3/methods-en/api-methods/) function is used to obtain the number of lines in an API V3 call:

    https://api.atinternet.io/v3/data/getData?param={"columns":["page","m_visits"],"sort":["-m_visits"],"space":{"s":[XXXXX]},"period":{"p1":[{"type":"D","start":"2022-12-25","end":"2022-12-25"}]},"max-results":50,"page-num":1,"options":{"ignore_null_properties":true}}

Replacing the **getData** function with **getRowCount**will allow you to get the number of rows of your previous query.

    https://api.atinternet.io/v3/data/getRowCount?param={"columns":["page","m_visits"],"space":{"s":[XXXXX]},"period":{"p1":[{"type":"D","start":"2022-12-25","end":"2022-12-25"}]},"options":{"ignore_null_properties":true}}

The **getRowCount** function can't be used with the following API parameters:

* sort

* max-result

* page-num

With these parameters, the API call will return an error.
