How do source properties work?
At Piano, we calculate a source for each visit. To do this, we retrieve the first value we have in a visit, it can be an organic source (direct access, search engine etc.) or a marketing campaign (sponsored links, advertising etc.). This unique source is then filled in on all the events of the visit.
For example:
Page | Access | Piano's source |
Homepage | Sponsored links | Sponsored links |
Product A | Advertising | Sponsored links |
Contact | Product A | Sponsored links |
Special case for marketing campaigns:
For campaign-type accesses, a second level of information is available which will allow to count the number of accesses via campaigns. Whether these accesses have been counted as sources or not. Thus by taking our example, we will obtain for this visit:
Source: Sponsored links
Campaign clicks: one on Sponsored Links, one on Advertising.
Page | Access | Piano's source | Click campaign |
Homepage | Sponsored links | Sponsored links | Yes |
Product A | Advertising | Sponsored links | Yes |
Contact | Product A | Sponsored links | No |
Special case for organic accesses:
For each event, you can also find out which URL the visitor comes from ("Previous URL") and we classify this URL in a organic source category ("Previous URL - Category", "Previous URL - Detail" and "Previous URL - Domain") to make this information easier to read.
Page | Access | Piano's source | Click campaign | Previous URL | Previous URL - Category |
Homepage | Sponsored links | Sponsored links | Yes | http://google.com | Search engine |
Product A | Advertising | Sponsored links | Yes | mysite.com/productA | Direct access |
Contact | Produit A | Sponsored links | No | mysite.com/conatct | Direct access |
