The In-Page Analytics plugin was developed to make it easier for you to view data about your site while you're on it.
When the extension is launched, it allows you to view the analysis of the current page directly within your browser, without needing to leave the page and navigate to the Piano Analytics interface.
Permissions
For privacy and security reasons, access to this information must be restricted. The rights you have been given in the Access Management interface may limit the use of the plugin if a given site is not part of the scope you're authorized to view, or if you're only authorized to view part of it.
What's more, even if a site is part of your scope, you must have at least a "Read Data" level of access as it appears in the group creation interface.
Login requirement
The In-Page Analytics Chrome plugin can only display data while you are actively logged in to Piano Analytics in the same browser. If your Piano Analytics session has expired (sessions last 10 hours), the plugin will appear empty or show a persistent loading screen even though it is installed correctly.
To restore the plugin:
-
Open a Piano Analytics tab at
https://analytics.piano.ioin the same browser where the plugin is installed. -
Sign in. Once you reach the Piano Analytics interface, return to the tab with the website you were inspecting, and reload the page.
-
The plugin will pick up the active session and display data.
Site association
The plugin only displays metrics for websites associated with your organization's Piano Analytics account. If you are browsing a website that your organization does not track — including most third-party websites — the plugin will not show data for it. This is expected behavior, not a fault.
If you believe the website should be tracked but the plugin is empty:
-
Confirm the site is configured in your Piano Analytics account under Access Management > Sites.
-
Confirm your user role grants access to that specific site (a site that exists in your organization but is outside your assigned scope will not show data for you in the plugin).
-
The plugin is compatible with sites that collect data on the client side. If your tracking is server-side, the plugin will not be able to find the appropriate site to display the data.
Troubleshooting
If the plugin loads indefinitely or fails to populate:
-
Confirm you are logged into Piano Analytics in the same browser (see above).
-
Disable other browser extensions that might intercept network requests, especially ad blockers and privacy tools — these are the most frequent cause of the plugin failing silently.
-
Make sure your browser is allowed to access
*.piano.io(corporate policies sometimes block extensions from talking to specific domains). -
As a last step, uninstall and reinstall the plugin from the Chrome Web Store to refresh its installation state.
