What is the inactivity duration for a visit?

By default, the inactivity duration between two visits is 30 minutes for websites, mobile sites, and applications.

How visit inactivity works

A visit is recorded when at least one on-site event is triggered and sent. After a visit starts, Piano Analytics uses an inactivity timer:

  • If a visitor does not generate any events for the configured inactivity duration, the visit is considered ended.

  • If the visitor generates a new event after that duration has elapsed, it is counted as a new visit.

Customizing the inactivity duration

You can configure the inactivity duration to a value between 10 and 30 minutes.

This setting is typically defined during the setup of the level 1 site.

Changing the setting after configuration

If you have already set the inactivity duration and later want to modify it, you must submit a request to our support team so the change can be applied.

When contacting support, include the site ID to help the team implement the update.

Requests for longer inactivity durations

The standard configurable range is 10–30 minutes and cannot be extended through normal configuration. For specific needs, please contact the support team with your use case, and we will study it.
